Lisa Jenkins and Cherie King

Lisa Jenkins, now living in the woods, and Cherie King, formerly homeless.

Homeless people, advocates, recovering addicts and parents of addicts still on the streets all said the city needs to work faster to replace the treatment programs and shelter beds lost when Long Island shut on just four hours notice on Oct. 8, at a packed meeting at the Blackstone Community Center - and to then do even more for what they said are growing numbers of people now out on the streets, under bridges, in downtown doorways and even on the roofs of 18-wheelers.

Steve reports and wonders:

Walked by a group of 20-30 somethings in Titus Sparrow Park dressed as unicorns, reeking of pot. Anyone know if this a thing?

Probably 40-50 people. It kinda had the look of one of those fun runs. For potheads, of course.

Firefighters quickly put out a small fire at a construction site next to the hospital's Menino Pavillion, but spreading smoke forced the evacuation of the neo-natal unit on the third floor.

Other workers and patients were told to remain in place - including surgeons, nurses and patients in seven operating rooms that were not affected by the smoke.

In response to a citizen complaint about loud street work on Appleton Street at 7:30 a.m. this past Saturday, Mark Cardarelli, supervisor of utility coordination and compliance at the DPW writes:

The Public Works Department is resurfacing Appleton St. Appleton was in disparate need of resurfacing, this is a plus for the residents. The street was posted 2 days in advance as required. Because the construction season ends November 15th every day left is critical. That's why they were working on the 11th. The work should be completed in the next week or so. The city apologizes for the inconvenience this necessary work caused.

It's like biker boys or 2fastfurious on Washington st every Sunday. Mopeds, quads, dirt bikes, face masks and zero helmets. How is this always going on so close to the D4 police station. There MUST be warrants out for some of these punks.
