Messed up Green Line trolley

Harry Wong noticed today that somebody spent a fair amount of time decorating a Green Line trolley at the Cleveland Circle yard with a large representation of a classic English word.

Alas for Tagger Dude, that's an un-rebuilt old trolley, so it's not going anywhere, except to get fixed and repaired (the Globe reports it's not one of the trolleys heading to upstate New York for a major overhaul). Also, when it comes to taggers, T cops go into Mountie mode.

Math problem as graffiti in Harvard Square

iFnLvBos wonders about the meaning of this scrawl at the Harvard Square T stop.

John Ruch points us to the infamous P versus NP problem:

Informally, it asks whether every problem whose solution can be quickly verified by a computer can also be quickly solved by a computer. It was essentially first mentioned in a 1956 letter written by Kurt Gödel to John von Neumann.

Defaced Christopher Columbus statue in the North End

Matt Conti at NorthEndWaterfront.com forwarded this photo of the defacement of the Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus Park some time last night.

By noon today, the paint and message were completely gone after a thorough power washing by a city crew.

Over the years, the statue has been marked up by people with a point to make - once, the statue was even decapitated.

Swastika in the Back Bay

A roving UHub correspondent alerted us yesterday to this swastika on the rear wall of 66 Hereford St. in the Back Bay. It was still there this afternoon, granted, in an alley behind a parked car.

Graffiti on the Jamaicaway in Jamaica Pond

A concerned citizen critiques the unknown artist's recent oeuvre:

You can't be a tortured artist if you don't have talent. This person is tagging the whole neighborhood and it's really becoming a problem. Mostly because it's not good art.

That word comes too late for a pair of Boston residents, whom Transit Police report were literally caught red handed on charges of defacing the driver's door of a Red Line trains last night.

Police say that around 8 p.m. yesterday, somebody punched in their digits to report that two guys who had been marking up the driver's door on a Red Line train were getting off at Downtown Crossing.

Boston Magazine reports somebody went around the outside of the MFA spray painting bad renditions of Homer Simpson - including on the base of "Appeal to the Great Spirit" on Huntington Avenue.

Ed. question: Anybody notice the explosion of graffiti along the Orange Line from Forest Hills to just past Back Bay over the last few months?

Somerville Nieghborhood News interviews the Not Art guy, who lives in Somerville:

In the past, creating ‘not art’ was something he did for fun. But this year, after he lost two food service jobs in three months, he decided it was a sign that he should pursue art full-time. ... "I'm planning on staying here,” he said. "I'm not going to be moving to Brooklyn like everybody else."

Defaced trolley at Boylston Street in Boston

Roving UHub photographer John Pellegrino was among many people this morning to notice the desecration of the historic MTA trolleys parked at Boylston station.

Transit Police in the past have come down pretty hard on any taggers they catch.

A T spokesman said detectives are already hunting for the tagger and will review video from the station's surveillance cameras.

Long live Enver Hoxha

They could be Boston's quietest ethnic community - you just don't hear much about the Albanians of Roslindale and West Roxbury. But Kathy Cahill spotted some Albanian graffiti in Roslindale this morning. Translated, it means "Long live Comrade Enver Hoxha," a paean to the Communist tyrant who ruled the country from 1944 until his death in 1985.

Film extolling the shoku's greatness - all in Albanian, but you'll get the idea.
