Zoo New England is announcing that both its zoos will re-open their outdoor exhibits to the general public on June 4 - but that you'll have to first go online to buy timed tickets in advance - no more just showing up. Also, you'll have to wear a facial covering, follow a one-way path through the exhibits and stay six feet away from other groups. Read more.

A horrified citizen has spent a couple days cataloging the damage being done to saplings in Franklin Park by what he says are porcupines on the munch - and is disputing the official city response that the damage is actually the work of "invasive rabbits," which, when you think of it, might be worse. Boston EMT with rescued dog

The Boston Fire Department reports that around 4:45 p.m., firefighters and EMTs responded to Scarboro Pond in Franklin Park to rescue a dog that had fallen through the ice - and her owner, who did the same trying to rescue her pet but who managed to make her way to one of the islands in the pond. Wait, what's that next to White Stadium?

Eeka the alert Apple Maps user alerted us today that the mapping service is now placing the USS Cassin Young in Franklin Park, next to White Stadium. If it's on the Internet, it must be true, so we guess you'll need to stop going to the Charlestown Navy Yard to see the ship.

Oh, wait, Apple Maps was also the service that decided Methadone Mile was worthy enough to be noted on maps, so maybe hold that thought.

Jamaica Plain News reports Zoo New England has been using Franklin Park to train Koda to find eastern box turtles, an increasingly rare species in New England, so that researchers can better figure out ways to keep them around.

Jef Taylor, who works at the Franklin Park Zoo, is leading a survey of wildlife in Franklin Park (outside the zoo, natch, since they already have a good handle on what sort of wildlife lives there). So far, volunteers have recorded 661 species of animals, insects, plants and fungi in the park.
