Margalit reports that the principal of Newton South High School ordered two Greenies with fliers against the alleged Zionist war in Darfur (what?) removed from the school before a Darfur benefit concert tonight:

... Almost no words can describe how absolutely whacked this Green Rainbow Party is. To call people against the genocide of Darfur "pro-war" is enough to make you shake your head in wonder. To blame it on "Zionism" and to confuse all Jews with Zionists is even stranger. But craziest of all is to try to come to South and spread this propagandist nonsense on the eve of a concert in support of Darfur...well that just about beats all.

Rainbows, this isn't Andover. In THIS city, we're not afraid to kick you to the curb. We aren't afraid to tell you to get the hell out of this town. Your message isn't wanted here. Free speech, sure. But you don't go onto a public school property uninvited and expect to be welcome. Not in THIS city.

Candidate for governor declares she is against discrimination

Grace Ross, the Green Party's candidate for governor, wants her black and female opponents (OK, and that white guy) to join her in speaking out against discrimination against blacks and women.

Israeli citizens, however, are fair game.

The Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party's state convention last week tabled a motion to amend its current position in favor of the destruction of the state of Israel with a new platform calling for the right of Israelis to stay in Palestine after Israel is dismantled. The measure would also have directed party members to stop referring to Israel as "a merely fictitous place."

Pro-Hezbollah party makes statewide ballot

So the Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party will have four candidates on the statewide ballot this year. Solomonia notes that in addition to a cleaner environment and gay rights, the party also stands for the destruction of the state of Israel and opposes efforts to stop the genocide in Darfur.

No Greens on the statewide ballot this year?

They might not get enough signatures to get any candidates on the ballot.

Via Solomonia, who wonders if it has to do with the party's plunge into Middle East politics. Eeka, though, blames The Insane Guy for scaring away potential petition signers:

... White guy, about 45, usually wears a t-shirt and baggy pants. Almost always wears a cap covered in political buttons. Kind of scruffy with long graying hair and a beard. He shows up at most every event and, well, bugs the crap out of people. He's also frequently seen on the Green Line trying to talk to strangers.

He'll approach someone with a greeting such as "do you support the war in Iraq?" or "how would you like to see a lesbian governor?" He takes extreme offense at responses such as "uh, I gotta go meet a friend" or "I'm trying to read here" or ignoring him. He then preaches at people about how their reluctance to talk with him equates with not caring about the community. ...
