Candelaria Silva worries what will happen to the Ashmont Market and Liquor Store now that the Georgeoulopoulos brothers have sold it:

Realization: I am assuming that the change in ownership would be a change for the worse; it could be a change for the better.

Decision: I'll be optimistic. I mean it would only be in the new owner's best interest to keep/maintain what has made the store work for the neighborhood.

Mattapan Line riders get a little break from the T

The MBTA has installed a signal system at Ashmont that will keep Mattapan trolleys from leaving if a Red Line train is about to pull into the station.

T spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the system comes in response to complaints from Red Line riders who would get out of their train just in time to see a trolley pulling away.

Boston Police are looking for a gray Honda in connection with a stabbing around 1 p.m. at Ashmont St. and Dorchester Avenue. The victim was reportedly stabbed in the back but his injury did not appear to be life threatening.

Lightning sets Ashmont three decker ablaze

The Boston Fire Department reports a lightning strike shortly after 6 p.m. started a fire that quickly engulfed the three-family house at 9 Alban St. in flames.

A lightning bolt hit the building's third-floor balcony spread to the two other balconies and went to three alartms. None of the ten residents were injured, the department says, estimating damage at $250,000. One firefighter went to the hospital after suffering chest pains.

Boston Police tweet a man, 26, was stabbed at Ashmont Street and Dorchester Avenue early this afternoon. No immediate word on his condition.

Yesterday, Kate Norton praised a driver on the 215 route from Quincy to Ashmont who picked up people who weren't at bus stops. Channel 25 followed up by interviewing a driver on the 215 route who picked up people who weren't at bus stops - but not the driver Norton meant.

Kate Norton reports that a driver on the 215 bus to Ashmont was doing more than just stopping at the regular bus stops: As he saw people struggling in the snow, he'd stop the bus and ask them if they were heading to Ashmont.

He did it for people his whole route. ... I want to write a letter to the MBTA. So amazing.

Boston Police are looking for two guys who held up the Ashmont Convenience Store, 1996 Dorchester Ave., around 12:30 p.m. today.

Both suspects are described as black. One was reported to be about 5'6" and wearing a red sweater. They were both last spotted walking north toward Fuller Street.

Guy reports (click to expand) a driver on a Mattapan trolley told him to stop videoing out the back window because he didn't have a permit - which the T stopped issuing three years ago when it decided to allow non-commercial photography.
