Outbreak of break-ins in Roslindale, West Roxbury

A skyrocketing burglary rate across Roslindale and West Roxbury has police asking residents to watch out for their neighbors' homes during the day.

District E-5 reports a series of mostly daytime residential break-ins across the two neighborhoods dating back to January, one in which somebody apparently used a crowbar to break open the front door.

Residences on Cornell Street in Roslindale and Temple, Salman and Bellevue streets in West Roxbury are among those hit, police say. Although most have been during the day, police say some have occurred in the evening when residents were not at home.

Latest stats from BPD show a 112% increase in break-ins in E-5 so far this year, compared to the same period last year - from 43 to 91 through May 21.

Police are urging residents who are at home during the day to watch out for their neighbors' homes and report anybody who doesn't seem to belong, for example, people going from door to door or looking into cars or houses.

Homeless man attacked on pier near the Zakim; police seek witnesses

A homeless man found with a serious head injury Monday at the Paul Revere Park fishing pier under the Charlestown Bridge may have been attacked there Sunday night.

Authorities are looking for people who may have been in the park and seen anything, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports:

Because the spot is popular with people walking their dogs or fishing in the harbor, authorities are asking anyone who may have been in the area on Sunday evening to come forward with information, no matter how minor or peripheral it might seem. Specifically, they hope someone may have seen a person or persons in the area of the pier on the evening or night of May 20.

Possible witnesses can contact State Police detectives - investigating because the park is state owned - at 617-727-8817, or by calling 911 on a cellphone.

White guy in scally cap sought for South Boston bank robbery

The FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force reports it's looking for a guy who walked into the Eastern Bank, 470 W. Broadway, on Monday morning and demanded money, which he got.

He's described as white, 5'10" with a thin build, about 25. In addition to a scally cap, he wore a black UnderArmour hoody and jeans with an emblem on back.

There's a reward for information leading to his capture. Drop a quarter to the task force at 617-680-4525.

Burlington Police report they are looking for a guy who may have had some explaining to do at home after a visit to the local Sears this past Mother's Day:

Male suspect entered Sears with two young children, male & female. The suspect concealed perfume & tools on a stroller, then left the store. Suspect was confronted by Sears Loss Prevention in the parking lot. The suspect pushed the loss prevention officer, and threw the two kids in the vehicle. Suspect was about to drive away with the male child hanging out of the vehicle, he then exited the vehicle and threw the child in the car, leaving behind the stroller.

Charlestown man charged with drive-by punching in the North End

NorthEndWaterfront.com reports police nabbed a suspect for last week's attack on Salem Street, in which a guy got out of a car, punched a woman and took her purse. He's also a suspect in a similar attack in Charlestown and his wife did the driving.

A man thrown in jail for refusing to testify against four men charged with murdering a teenager in 2007 can be tried for contempt of court and face additional jail time, the Supreme Judicial Court ruled today.

Admilson Vizcaino would not face double jeopardy on contempt charges because the judge in the 2010 trial never formally entered her decision to jail him during the trial as a "sentence" in the court docket, the state's highest court ruled.

Maryland man faces charge in 2004 Green Line sexual attack; initially, just his DNA was indicted

An economics consultant from Maryland was arraigned today on charges of indecent assault and battery for an incident on the Green Line near Kenmore Square in 2004, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Prosecutors charge Timothy Day spurted on a woman's pants and pocketbook on a crowded B trolley between Copley and Kenmore Square on June 22, 2004.

Prosecutors initially indicted an unknown individual linked to a specific DNA sequence, extracted from the remains of the material on the woman's purse, retrieved from the trash after she threw it away in disgust.

A Dorchester teen just weeks from graduation was ordered held without bail today on charges he murdered a Forest Hills man who had arranged to sell him a pound of pot.

Charles Reddicks, 18, was already out on $5,000 bail for a Dec. 11 drive-by shooting, in which he allegedly fired a bullet into the arm of another teen at Columbus Avenue and Douglas Park from the passenger seat of a moving car to settle an earlier beef, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
