The perpetual candidate writes he's decided against running, although he doesn't say why. Two other Republicans, Keith Lepor and Vernon Harrison, are looking at taking on the incumbent.

Robinson says he commissioned a poll that found Lynch only had a 42% approval rating in the 9th District.

Red Mass. Group reports people who signed a petition to repeal gay marriage in Massachusetts got mailings this weekend from Robinson touting his "progressive" values, which include support for gay marriage. Because, of course, nobody would ever send out such stuff in an attempt to deliberately turn people against Robinson, right?

The Herald reports Republican Jack E. Robinson was outside Park Street last night, calling for the feds to pour enough money into the MBTA to eliminate fares and to spend $3 billion on a bullet train to Springfield.

The Herald reports Jack E. Robinson filed 10,900 signatures at the last minute to get onto the Republican ballot for the special Senate election. As long as 10,000 of those signatures - which the Herald says he spent $100,000 to collect - are valid, he'll face off against Swearin' Scott Brown in the primary.

Ed. Ninth District Note: I don't particularly like Lynch - I have never voted for him - but, honestly, the chances of Robinson beating him next month are about equal to my odds of being elected Prince of Wales.

Man, he's one of my favorite perennial candidates - how can you not love a guy who crashes his car on the Jamaicaway while calling into WBUR - while denying allegations he was a groper?

Still, who knew that this time he's running for congress in my district, against Steve Lynch? Hey, anybody know what ever happened to Mildred Jefferson?

OK, OK, probably more important about this race is this question: Why hasn't the 9th-district race gotten more attention? No, not because of Robinson. But because it pits a pro-war, socially conservative Democratic incumbent against an anti-war, progressive Democratic challenger, Phil Dunkelbarger. On Blue Mass. Group, Janalfi wonders as well:

... Frankly, I'm surprised that he isn't getting more attention from the Lamont win. I mean, the Globe did an article on anti-war candidates running against incumbents across the country and didn't even mention the race in their own hometown. What's up with that? ...
