Protest against BPS budget cuts

At 11:30 a.m., hundreds of high-school and middle-school students walked out of their classes at Boston schools and streamed onto buses and subways for the ride downtown to let the mayor and the governor know they don't want their programs cut. Read more.

Students at Boston high schools could walk out of classes Monday for a protest to demand more funding for the schools, which are facing program cuts for the next school year.

There can be only one? Not when it comes to having the exclusive first interview with Boston Latin School Headmaster Lynne Mooney Teta, apparently. Both the Globe and the Herald have interviews up with Boston Latin School Headmaster Lynne Mooney Teta. Both claim theirs is the first since the start of the Black at BLS protest.

Also neither noted her choice of purple for her outfit, but maybe only people associated with the school somehow would notice that.

But where the Globe just reported what she said, the Herald found her "evasive." In fact, its headline is: "Boston Latin headmaster ducks questions in first interview."

The state this week approved plans to add 1,100 new charter-school seats in Boston.

The board of the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education decided Tuesday to let Neighborhood House Charter School in Dorchester add 429 seats and expand to grades 9-12 - and to let the Brooke schools add 691 students and a high school. Read more.

A concerned citizen complains about conditions at the Mendell School on School Street in Egleston Square:

The Mendell not only does not have a gymnasium, but our parents have to buy the shovels AND clear the snow in the outside play area ourselves if we want our kids to have space to play in the winter.
