Whalehead King ponders Spare Change Guy:

He's an ugly guy with an ugly face. We don't follow him everywhere he goes but we suspect he brings up the rear in the human race. Despite that, he is a man and he seems to be an honorable one, even if he is often misunderstood. ...

How do you know you’re truly a Bostonian? The ability to relate the story of the Curse of the Bambino (and the way it was reversed two years ago) is one way. Navigating illogical, one-way streets or citing the best restaurants and bars in Dorchester or Jamaica Plain are also tell-tale signs of Bostonhood.

But the true mark of a Bostonian? You know (and appreciate!) the Woot Woot Guy.

Scooterdude, that guy you see sailing around Copley Square on a scooter and a sail made out of a plastic bag, reports a Tokyo news crew spent some time videoing him recently:

Callum Hanlon wonders what happened to the "angry gladiator-looking man" who would curse out anybody who dared look at him as he lumbered down Comm. Ave. by BU:

... I miss the way that you scream "Get the **** away from me," whenever I try to address you in any way, shape or form. I miss the way you wear those weights--especially that bullet-proof jacket looking thing--all over your extremely fit body ...

He's the guy you see sailing around Copley Square on a skateboard with a plastic sail. He reports on his excursion late Saturday night:

I found it strange that there were more than the usual number of detractors and disbelievers, the ones who only have comments like, "Try getting a better sail! Ha!" or, "As if that's going to work, you idiot! You suck!"

I have a hard time understanding people who can so freely and readily speak out of ignorance. Why can't these few insecure and fear-driven people even consider that, after all these years I've been succeeding in this and found it a perfect delight and joy, that any objection or problem they may suggest I've already dealt with and moved on? ...

He's not just some innocent, if annoying, crank, he's a scary and potentially violent sexual harasser, duffless2323 warns:

... I have personally been harrased by him on 2 different occasions, a few years apart. I also saw him say some very violent and sexually explicit things to another young woman who was by herself until I turned the corner, I then walked with her and he went back to the spare change routine. She was very relieved someone came along. ...

Back when we lived in Brighton (man, has it really been 14 years already?), one of the neighborhood characters was the mysterious driver of this ancient brown and white Volvo with "God Loves You" painted on the trunk. We never saw it parked or the face of the driver, but it was always around.

A couple months back, we were driving down Chestnut Hill Avenue in Brookline and spotted him at Rte. 9. Now Cowbark takes a photo of the Jesus Volvo in the South End.

Riggs discusses a Back Bay vagrant who likes to yell a lot:

... On my walk to the T tonight, I saw him at the corner of Newbury and Hereford throwing trash into the air, swearing the entire time.

And, by into the air, I mean way UP in the air. It was like the Swedish Chef tossing chickens around. ...

Say you're that guy who walks around Quincy Market all day dressed like Ben Franklin. What do you do when it's time to go home? Suzie reports you keep your britches on and get on the train to Andover, but adds that seeing him there only raises more questions:

... Does he take his wig off and lay his costume aside when he enters his home? Or does he don a nightcap and traditional Ben Franklin night clothes? Does he fly kites around the neighborhood? ...

Good to know he's still around.

He's been there since '82; dropped out of Harvard to play chess.
