Workers at the Panera on High Street downtown are all wearing Giants Super Bowl shirts today to settle a bet their manager made with his counterpart at a Panera in New York.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday approved requests from Red Lantern in the Back Bay, Kennedy's Midtown downtown and Down Ultra Lounge in the Financial District to let groups of customers drink from a bottle of liquor right on their table.

But bowing to the city's general distaste for bottle service, all three said customers would not actually be able to buy an entire bottle of liquor for the night.

Food-truck operator to city: Food trucks hurting, need more opportunities in the Back Bay, downtown

Adam Gendreau, co-owner and co-operator of the Staff Meal food truck, has penned an open letter to city officials about Boston's nascent food-truck efforts:

Despite the media portrayal that the food truck industry in Boston is thriving, the reality is that the city hasn’t implemented a system that will allow food trucks to succeed.

The problem, as I see it, is a cultural one. There has never been a street food culture in this city; we’re building one from the ground up. With that in mind, there’s a reasonable expectation that the city would shine a spotlight on this burgeoning industry in order to aid the cultural adoption on the part of both vendors and customers. The model of deciding where food trucks would be successful isn’t currently working well.

Gendreau praises city efforts, but says food-truck operators and the city should be focusing on certain heavily trafficked areas first before spreading out across the city - such as the Back Bay and the Financial District:

At the very least the city should allow multiple trucks to cluster in Back Bay. This would easily help all of us fill our schedules with spots that are known to be prosperous. It also provides multiple food options, which most people would see as being a good thing. Clustering would be a simple solution to help the food truck industry expand.

Police seek man who held up bank, did not stop to give money to little kids

The FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force is looking for a man who held up a Financial District bank at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.

The man is described as white, in his mid-20s, with strawberry blond facial hair.

He was wearing a long sleeve grey shirt underneath a short-sleeve dark gray T-shirt, grey sweatpants and a blue Polo baseball cap.

kdrc525 took in Occupy Boston yesterday, including a protest outside the Federal Reserve Bank. As they have since the beginning, protesters and police have maintained good relations - police who patrolled a march through the Back Bay blocked off traffic to let the occupods express their views without worrying about getting run down.

Occupy Boston almost had its first arrests Wednesday. Marchers moved out from Dewey Square and surrounded the Bank of America headquarters on Federal Street (where 24 had been arrested in a different protest on Friday). They began to lock hands around the entrances. Police called in prisoner transport wagons. And then, they broke for a bite to eat. Protesters also demonstrated outside Goldman Sachs offices on High Street:

Meanwhile, it looks like Occupy Boston might be putting down some roots in Copley Square.

Power suiters going to and from their lunchbreaks kept passing by the Occupy Boston encampment in Dewey Square today. The guy below urged occupods to stand by the sidewalk and to engage - but not antagonize - passersby, rather than just fraternizing with fellow protesters in the confines of the encampment.
