John Kerry suffers hockey injury

And no, not at the hands of Tim Thomas. The Herald reports the black eyes he sported at the White House Bruins festivities were related to the broken nose he got during a hockey match. Yes, in which he played.

Happy vs. grumpy in Washington

Both of our senators have pages on their official Web sites listing all the other members of the Massachusetts delegation in Washington. Christopher Snyder noticed a difference, though, between the two pages. See if you can figure out which photos come from John Kerry's site and which from Scott Brown's.

American Idol's Siobhan Magnus bombs National Anthem at Quincy political rally

Siobhan Magnus, who was the sixth place finalist on the ninth season of American Idol, is a local girl from Barnstable. Today she made the trip to Quincy to join Joe Biden, John Kerry, Vicki Kennedy and other prominent Democrats in a rally for Norfolk District Attorney William Keating, who is hoping to take over the seat being vacated by Rep. William Delahunt.

She was terrible.

Something fishy about John Kerry's Web site

Steve Garfield informs us that the "Massachusetts" page on John Kerry's official Senate Web site notes our official state fish is the cod, but actually shows a photo of a salmon.

Use of "haddock," "sole," "harbor," "clam," "scale," "finny" and "crab" in puns related to this news is left as an exercise to the reader.

Liberal lamentation over the sailing yacht

Boston Skeptic writes:

... What Kerry doesn't realize is that most people have marriages, lives and budgets and work hard every day to make ends meet. Most people don't own several million dollar recreational items apart from their spouse or spend time around the dinner table holding shareholder meetings to discuss the use and maintenance of family assets. Watching Kerry handle this situation like a jackass is fun, but it makes me feel bad for America. Even though we voted convincingly not to have him as our president, the people in my state continue employ him as our voice in important decisions.

That John Kerry remains a powerful force in American government is a frightening prospect. Fortunately for us he'll never get out of his own way long enough to do any real damage. Anchors aweigh!

Kerry speaks out: Don't discriminate in giving blood

I can only shake my head when I see those white posters with the iconic red crosses at the campus where I work.

Give blood? Sure.

Except that my blood is not the right kind of blood. My donation, after completing the form in which I am asked point-blank about my sex life, will be summarily thrown away–despite the fact that this blood could save another life.

Senator John Kerry wrote an eloquent, reasoned editorial calling for an end to this discriminatory practice in Boston’s local gay newspaper, Bay Windows. The distinguished statesman from my home state debunks the reasons that gay men are legally banned from donating blood in the United States.

Among the reasoned arguments:

Kerry's Boston office evacuated due to suspicious package in the mailroom

The Boston Fire Department reports workers at John Kerry's 1 Bowdoin Square office were evacuated around noon. Workers were allowed back in an hour later after a hazmat crew determined the package was stable enough to be transported to a state lab. The Herald reports the package may contain cooking oil.

Kerry, Tsongas talk job creation in Lowell

Poor women won't be able to get abortions, but John Kerry wants to make sure they can get Christian Science counseling

The Los Angeles Times reports on a health-care "reform" pushed by John Kerry (and, to be fair, by the late Ted Kennedy) that would require insurers to pay for Christian Science counseling sessions as a health-care expense.
