The recent opening of Jerusalem Trading on Poplar Street in Roslindale Square (where that African discount store used to be) ends the giant-ceramics drought that's plagued Roslindale ever since Nancy's on Belgrade Avenue shut down this past spring.

The store looks to carry a complete line of life-size and near-life-size ceramic animals, including a ceramic peacock for only $119.99, and, naturally, snarling ceramic tigers. Also in stock: Ceramic figures of 17th-century European nobility and, of course, ceramic-flower-bedecked ceramic pillars on which to display all your ceramics. Also available: Furniture, which appears to be made of non-ceramic materials, such as wood.

Thursday, Oct. 2: John Ford Coley and Terry Sylvester, lead singer of the Hollies, in concert at Kowloon. Yes, the giant Chinese restaurant in Saugus. $25. 781-233-0077 for tickets and the time the concert starts.

Saturday, Oct. 3: Harvest Fest, which will "bring together some of the finest artistic, culinary and musical talents from in and around the city of Somerville. Samples and demonstrations from local microbreweries will be presented throughout the day." Plus music/multimedia by, among others, Zebbler (better known as one of the Lite-Brite guys). 1-8 p.m., wristbands are $12. More info.

Sunday, Oct. 4: This must be snack-food month in Union Square in Somerville. The weekend after the annual What the Fluff festival comes Going Nutty, in which several local bakeries and restaurants show off their skills in making foods with, well, nuts. $5 donation goes to a high-school music scholarship fund. 2-4 p.m. More info.

Sunday, Oct. 4: Rozzie rats and political junkies will line Belgrade Avenue in Roslindale for the Roslindale Day parade, which kicks off at 1 p.m. at Adams Park in the Square, wends its way through Roslindale, takes a detour through West Roxbury by Holy Name and then ends up at Fallon Field. Wayne Braverman reports the Greek Spirit of Boston Association and Roslindale Clean & Green will be rededicating Alexander the Great Park in Roslindale Square on May 17 at noon, in honor of some new landscaping.

Of course, I had to rush home to dish up this news: Roslindale Square is getting another ice-cream place. Jimmies, opening soon on Corinth Street, next to Imperial Kitchen, will also serve food on buns.

Currently, Roslindale residents who need ice cream have to travel down to Belgrade for Select Cafe, the former Emack and Bolios. The cafe, which is more of a coffeehouse that serves ice cream, is currently redecorating a bit - and no longer requires people to ask for a key at the counter for the restroom.

Oh, noes, the giant red pin that marked Rozzie Square as one of Boston's cultural epicenters is gone! Does this mean people will no longer flock to the Square to see all the sights? Or was it just a safety measure to keep four-year-olds from bonking into it during the annual Easter Egg hunt there?

What a gouda idea: Brie the family over to the Boston Cheese Cellar on Birch Street in the Square tomorrow (Saturday, March 28), between noon and 4 p.m. for free cheesy comestibles, Wicked Local Roslindale reports.
