An allegedly drunk guy upset at being denied entry to Napper Tandy's, 4187 Washington St. in Roslindale, late on July 29, whipped a plastic nip bottle in the general direction of the bar. He missed the bar but hit a man who just happened to be walking up Washington Street at that moment.

That man went up to the guy, said "you just hit me with this bottle," and then punched him and kept walking, a Boston police officer told the Boston Licensing Board this morning. When police arrived, they discovered the nip flinger had an outstanding warrant and arrested him. The puncher was nowhere to be found.

753 South, where Derna's used to be, had its "soft" opening this week, according to the folks at Keep Roslindale Quirky. Look for small plates - served on a patio in nicer weather - as well as beer and wine since the place, which has the same owners as Delfino across the street, was one of the first places in Boston to get one of the city's then new neighborhood beer-and-wine licenses, back in 2014.

Stacy Eblan reports on the Quirky Roslindale Message Board that the Staples on Washington Street is closing on June 11.

The store opened in 2008 in a new building where the Ashmont Home Center used to be. Between Ashmont and Staples came several proposals that never got anywhere, including a chain drug store - stopped by Tom Menino himself to protect the nearby Sullivan's Pharmacy - and a self-storage place.
