No, don't worry, the Casey Overpass still stands. Late yesterday, Christian Scott forwarded this report about the old Tollgate bridge:

In the early hours of this morning the MBTA or AMTRAK or somebody removed the pedestrian bridge you posted about last month. I saw it being craned onto a flatbed this morning inside the lumber yard.

This is Tollgate Way.

Take the 34 bus up Washington Street to Forest Hills and it always announces Tollgate Way. Nobody ever gets off there, though. Except maybe the ghosts.

Across the train tracks, on Hyde Park Avenue, a street sign also announces Tollgate Way:

But there's nothing there, except a small, dilapidated cemetery. Look up, across the cemetery, and you'll see an abandoned pedestrian bridge across the Amtrak and commuter-rail tracks: A bridge to nowhere - there are no longer any stairs leading up to the span.

Early morning crash kills one, injures four in Readville

State Police report a crash at Hyde Park Avenue and Milton Street around 2:40 a.m. killed the driver of one car and sent four occupants of the other car to the hospital.

State Police said the dead driver was a 24-year-old Hyde Park man. No charges have yet been filed and the crash remains under investigation.

An SUV driver and a passenger on an MBTA bus were taken to the hospital when the two vehicles collided on Hyde Park Avenue around 5:30 p.m. - the driver with a cut left arm, the passenger with a hand injury, the MBTA says. Two more passengers were taken to the hospital for observation.

According to the MBTA, the SUV pulled out of a driveway in front of the inbound 32 bus, at 1715 Hyde Park Avenue. The left front of the SUV struck the right front of the window. The SUV careened through a chain-link fence and down a two-foot drop near an old factory building; the bus's right front window shattered. T police are continuing to investigate.

State and Boston Police sealed off Hyde Park Avenue on either side of the collision until after the last of the passengers was taken away in an ambulance.

Hyde Park Avenue shut as car wraps around tree

At least one person was taken away in serious condition after a collision between a car and a tree at Hyde Park and Metropolitan avenues shortly after noon.

Police shut the two streets to let accident investigators try to figure out what happened. An Nstar pickup truck at the scene had some damage to its left rear panel. The car came to rest right next to a tree with its bark torn off in front of an auto-repair shop.

One poor guy stood at the intersection, repeatedly calling his wife's cell phone. She was supposed to pick him up right there; he got there to see the remains of the accident, his wife nowhere in sight and her phone going straight to voice mail. A reporter told him she thought the only vehicles involved were the car and the pickup.

Death scene: 742 Hyde Park Ave.

A pizza-delivery man in his 50s was stabbed to death at 742 Hyde Park Ave. in Roslindale shortly before midnight by two men and a woman, who stole his car and then abandoned it behind a church a couple miles away in Hyde Park, police say.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, speaking near the car behind St. Adalbart Church on River Street this morning, said evidence at the murder scene and in the car should help police find the trio even though they have fled the area.

Davis said the three broke into the Hyde Park Avenue house - which has been vacant for about a year - then called a local Domino's for a pizza. When the delivery man, not identified pending notification of his next of kind, arrived, they attacked and killed him.

Davis said somebody who had seen initial media reports about his Subaru wagon noticed it in the church parking lot and called police around 8:30 a.m.

At 8:30 this morning, Dave Vittorini tweeted to MBTA General Manager Richard Davey about conditions on the Hyde Park Avenue bus:

operator 70135 on the 32 bus NEVER has the ac on. It's sooo hot. I feel like I need another shower when I get to work.

Six minutes later, Davey replied:

A disagreement over how fast a clerk at a Hyde Park liquor store was serving a customer ended with a store employee chasing the customer down the street and beating him with a metal pipe, according to testimony at a Boston Licensing Board hearing today.

The Boston Licensing Board holds a hearing on Wednesday, July 29 to decide whether to let Mandarin House, 633 Hyde Park Ave. stay open until 1 a.m., Monday through Saturday (currently, it closes at 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday).

Has anybody ever tried it? I have to admit we don't tend to stray from Golden House on Washington Street.
