The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that supermarkets cannot shush away signature collectors from their entrances, because they are public spaces where state constitutional rights apply.

The ruling comes in the case of Steven Glovsky, who was told by the manager of the Westwood Roche Bros. in 2012 that he could not collect signatures there for his run for the governor's council.

UPDATE, 6:40 p.m.: Transit Police gave Keolis the OK to resume normal operations through the area. Transit Police report the boy was airlifted to a Boston hospital; is expected to survive.

The 4:20 train to Franklin hit a 14-year-old near Islington station in Westwood.

Gugliemo reports getting a text from somebody on the train:

Police informed passengers. Have to get off and board another.

Nice day for fare increases and a new operator, but you can't blame this on the T: Around 6:15 a.m., the driver of a lobster truck managed to wedge his truck firmly into the train bridge at East Street and Carroll Avenue, just before the Islington stop. All sorts of delays on the inbound Franklin Line, of course.

There are also delays on the Providence/Stoughton Line.

Firefighters from several towns and NStar are on University Avenue near the Rte. 128 train station, working to shut down a leaky gas main. Train service through the station was halted; State Police shut the University Avenue ramp from 128.

Timothy Robertson at the Dedham Patch takes the stenography:

"A downside of Rush’s deployment: no vote will be cast for the district he represents..."

This is the mailing that has Stephen Lynch in a tizzy.

Lynch plays his cards close to the vest in what seems like a defensive style of politics. It certainly is not leadership-driven.

Take his process on the health care bill debate last summer. From March through August we heard Rep.Lynch say he didn't know how he'd vote on the bill. At the same time, he did not take a leadership role in shaping it. In August at Curry, Rep. Lynch held a town hall meeting and said he had read the bill but still didn't know how he was going to vote. Once again, his constituents could not get a bead on where he stood.

Perhaps even more stunningly at that town hall meeting, Rep. Lynch was given the chance to answer a question about death panels (after all he had read the bill) and refudiate (sic) ;-) the meme that right wing Republican liars and Fox News had made popular. Lynch equivocated! He would not take a stand!

WBZ tweets the Legacy Place mall shut down at 6 to "conserve power." Alert New England tweets the power's also out at the Super Stop & Shop in Dedham.

Dave Atkins tweets Westwood is powerless in this heat tonight, or, at least, his street.

The Supreme Judicial Court yesterday tossed out Canton's lawsuit against the proposed Westwood Station project in neighboring Westwood, ruling the town failed to file its complaints on time.

Westwood Station work suspended for lack of money, the Boston Business Journal reports. Hmm, how's Legacy Place in Dedham doing?

By DaveA - 12/4/08 - 6:34 pm

It appears the legislative wrangling that has been stalling activity on Beacon Hill since August is finally over. This afternoon, Westwood's home rule petition to allow an off-premises beer and wine license for potential Westwood Station tenant Wegmans, was passed in the House after Canton Representative Galvin dropped his objections.

Sure, it's small, but it packs a punch.

Dave, meanwhile, writes how fortunate he is to live near the massive Westwood Station development and work in rapidly changing Fort Point Channel.

Seems like the only time you ever hear of this guy, the august state rep from Hyde Park (and my small sliver of Roslindale) is when he manages to grind the legislature to a halt over some issue that doesn't involve his district at all (anybody remember how he tied up the disposition of the old Boston State Hospital for years?). This time: A liquor license for some supermarket in Westwood.

I attended last night's Board of Selectmen meeting and blog here at http://westwoodblog.org/node/37 about the creation of a committee to promote energy efficiency in the town and to move forward with consideration of the Community Preservation Act adoption at May town meeting...

Dave Atkins ponders the implications of the giant Westwood Station project (massive housing/office complex next to the 128 train station) on the small town:

... I think the alternative to growth is stagnation, so I am supportive of the project. I do wish there was more discussion of the vision behind it and some way in the community to think about this as more than just a tax revenue source or traffic magnet. Time will tell the fate of our growth.

Worried about ceiling tiles? Better add Rte. 128 catchbasin grates to your list.
