Those of you who closely read everything I write know of my obsession fascination with photos of Peoples Federal Savings Bank CEO Thomas J. Leetch, Jr. Back in the day, when Peoples was still a mutual bank (basically as close to a credit union as you can get and still be a bank), kidlet and I were always assured by his unsmiling visage on signs in the lobby and in the quarterly bank newsletter: This, we concluded, was a man who would fight to his last to preserve our deposits: Stern, tough, single mindedly ordering up more guards to protect our money in the vault.

The Boston Business Journal reports the parent company of Rockland Trust is buying Peoples Federal Savings Bank, headquartered in Brighton Center.

While the move will make Rockland the third largest bank in Allston/Brighton, it will be only the fifth largest bank in West Roxbury, the Journal reports.

Bank pres.Bank pres.Peoples Federal Savings Bank, a small chain of Boston neighborhood banks that has survived more than 100 years, today filed suit against an upstart competitor that is opening branches across Massachusetts called People's United Bank.

In the trademark-infringement suit, filed in US District Court in Boston, Peoples Federal basically argues that it was here first and that the new bank should find something else to call itself. Oh, and pay Peoples Federal a lot of money for the "irreparable injury" it's caused.

John Daley writes that customer service at Sovereign Bank is terrible:

... Citizens has a well deserved reputation for great service. Sovereign, in my experience anyway, has been appallingly bad.

John, meet Mike Mennonno, who might might beg to differ about the quality of customer service at the green bank after the work the bank put him through to withdraw $25 after he lost his ATM card.
