Trash fire at Haymarket station disrupts late-night riders

A small trash fire on the Green Line tracks was extinguished by a Green Line driver late tonight, but there might be something else going on at Haymarket. Around 11 p.m., Boston_Fireman tweeted to expect delays on both Green and Orange lines. Green Line service in both directions was stopped, while power on the Orange Line between Haymarket and State Street was turned off. However, the T was given the OK to restore service on both lines around 11:40 p.m. Read more

How would Green Line tracks catch on fire?

Samantha Star snapped a photo of some burning Green Line tracks in Coolidge Corner around 6 p.m. today.

He'd like to buy the world a Coke and some ketchup

The Food Monkey considers those ads now gracing some stations (such as Government Center and Back Bay) with the chef sneering at the Pepsi drinkers of the world:

... It seems that Chef Colicchio suggests pairing your diet coke with something that appears a burger/seafood paella hybrid, with a pile of polenta covered in ketchup as a side. I am most glad to see this, as up until this time, I had believed myself to be alone in my Diet Coke and paella burger dining practices. ...

Speaking of T ads, what's up with the schizophrenia at South Station, which can't decide if it should promote Macs or Windows?

Another Green Line accident: Several hurt at North Station

Channel 7 reports a driver in a westbound trolley stopped short tonight, sending passengers flying. Interestingly, the trolley continued to Government Center, where some passengers were removed on stretchers, the station says.

Probably the lamest "E"xcuse ever (updated)

From the T web page:

Green E Line is being diverted at Brigham Circle due to a road paving project on Washington St. in Brookline. Please use route#39 bus between Heath Street and Brigham Circle. 11/4/2009 12:34 PM

Memo to T: Huntington Avenue service goes NOWHERE NEAR this project. And if the rationale for terminating at Brigham Circle is a traffic problem delaying the streetcars (which can be easily solved by a couple of police officers), given that the #39 buses are equally affected by this, as per this item subsequently posted on the T web page: Read more

The Green Line as poetry in motion

Michael Sesling has been writing about his daily commute on the C line - in poetry. From his latest poem:

and they stared
everyone looked at this seat
and then looked at everyone else
looking at the seat
but not a soul moved toward it
it just stayed
empty

some days an empty seat is like
an injured animal
being circled by hungry vultures
but this day
who knows why nobody made a move
maybe we were all too aware of our own selves

the woman in green sweater
seated in the adjacent seat
surely wondered why
everyone stood around
as she turned
looked
with a momentary stare
before she drifted back into
her shuffled papers

MBTA: Two alleged gropers grabbed last night

MBTA installs electronic signs on the Riverside line that do absolutely nothing

No, that's not quite true, Paul Levy reports: They do warn you that fare evasion is a crime so you better pay your damn fare:

I have to give the MBTA something for truth in advertising. It describes this capital improvement project (or one like it) as follows: This project will install new LED information signs on the platforms and lobbies of busy subway stations. These signs will provide visual equivalent of audio information on train arrival times and destination information.

In that sense, the signs are the visual equivalent of the public address system on this line, which for years has also failed to give audio information about delays or train arrivals.

Paging Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, you're needed on the Green Line

T spokesman Joe Pesaturo says repairs are being made to a section of the overhead wire on the outbound side near the BU Bridge, with the work expected to be done by 1 p.m.

Another Green Line fail?

According to the latest WBZ Traffic on the 3s report, the T is apparently bussing between Blanford and Packards Corner on the B line.

Disabled trolley, the T reports.

What happened to the sliding door

on the end of the Garden-side entrance to North Station Orange/Green Line subway? It's been removed and the hole covered over with plywood.

If and when it is eventually replaced, I hope the T puts in a pair of normal swinging doors instead.
