Boston Police report arresting Melvin Wright, 28, on charges he sent another man to Boston Medical Center with multiple life-threatening stab wounds shortly before midnight last night.

Wright, police say, stabbed another man repeatedly during a "verbal altercation" at 107 Devon St.

He was charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

Innocent, etc.

One-alarm fire damages house on Columbia Road

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire erupted around 11:30 p.m. at 333 Columbia Rd.

Six residents were displaced, the department says. None suffered injuries, but one firefighter went to the hospital for observation after slipping, the department says.

Uphams Corner, Grove Hall and Readville could lose post offices

Readville Post Office: Small, but no easy walk to the next post office.

The US Postal Service has released its list of Massachusetts post offices it's thinking of shutting down to save money.

In addition to those locations, the postal service is thinking of ditching post offices in Inman Square, East Arlington, East Dedham and a whole bunch in Newton, as part of an effort to close 3,700 post offices across the country.

A Dorchester man started screaming at two gay women coming out of a market and was attempting to beat them with his cane when police arrived on the scene Wednesday evening, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Two-alarm fire displaces 12 in Dorchester

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire called in around 1:45 a.m. at 385 Columbia Rd. quickly went to two alarms and did an estimated $200,000 in damage.

The Red Cross was called in to help find new housing for seven adults and five children in the three-unit building, the department reports.

Grove Hall vs. Mattapan on new buses, maybe?

The Globe reports riders of the 28 in Mattapan love the new, larger buses the T has put on the route but that people in Grove Hall are, um, disquieted by the buses. The Globe doesn't cite any specific complaints about the specific new vehicles in Grove Hall, but seems to indicate that City Councilor Chuck Turner wanted the buses pulled off the roads after one month because of the legacy of 30 years of the T treating the neighborhood like dirt.

Two gang members shot on Blue Hill Avenue, one dies

Boston Police report two 18-year-olds were shot at 471 Blue Hill Ave. shortly after midnight this morning. One was pronounced at the scene; the other was rushed to Boston Medical Center. Police add:

The preliminary investigation indicates that this is not a random incident. Both victims are known to police.

Boston-area WiFi provider sues Google over privacy issues

The anti-violence march and the pirate radio station

This Sunday, there's going to be a "Man Up for Liquarry Jefferson Accountability March" from Grove Hall to City Hall, to try to get black men to take more responsibility for stopping violence in inner-city Boston (starts at 11 a.m.; it's named for the little boy shot by a cousin with an illegal gun a family member left lying around).

I didn't read about it in the Globe or the Herald, of course. Instead, I heard about it this morning on Touch FM, the pirate radio station a toothless FCC can't seem to shut down.

But maybe it's not such a bad thing the FCC can't figure out how to dismantle an antenna. For the 20 minutes or so I listened to the station in the car (came in very well in Roslindale, slowly faded out as I got toward Rte. 9 in Newton), I listened to callers discussing what "brothas can do" to change the 'hood - and which song they'd pick as a theme for the march or which best reminds them of somebody they'd lost to violence. The DJ recited names of young victims of violence and reminded listeners that the mainstream media only seem to care about the inner city when somebody gets gunned down - where are the stories about good things in the non-white areas of Boston?

The answer to that one is easy, of course: If you look at today's Globe, you'll notice the paper assigned two metro reporters to the Patriots/Herald story (and another to cover a mock hurricane evacuation on the Cape).
