Eeka pulls over to let an ambulance go by and a cab smashes into her and then takes off.

TS, though, reports that sometimes Masshole cabbies do get what's coming to them - although, of course, being cabbies, they wind up shutting down the Sumner Tunnel in the process.

Jay Fitzgerald wonders if Boston cabs are just collectively a disaster in the making. He reports:

... I was standing on the sidewalk on Harrison Avenue, when I was jolted out of my usual Walter Mitty smoking-break reverie by a loud metallic banging sound coming down Herald Street. The commotion stopped when a cab pulled over to the side. The driver got out, inspected the cab, looked underneath it, and then shrugged his shoulders. Saving a cabbie from immolation

About that cab that caught fire on Cambridge Street yesterday morning: Not only did Carpundit witness the fire, he reports he had to convince the driver to get out of the car:

... I saw it pulled over and the driver just sitting there, staring down at the passenger seat as if he were examining a map. He was oblivious of the flames rising out of the instrument panel. If I'd had a camera, I could show you. But I didn't. Instead, I ran over and opened the door.

The cab driver, an elderly man, seemed confused. He wasn't moving out of his burning car. I mean, who sits in a car when the entire dashboard is aflame? Then he wouldn't move. I yelled at him, pulled him, persuaded him to get out, which he did. ...
