The Lone Rider reports the second new train has gone into service on the Blue Line - and provides updates on train painting/refurbishing on the other lines.

Meanwhile, Joey, new to the US, reports on a fun day at Revere Beach today - which ended at the Blue Line station where she watched a guy beat up a cop and two strangers jump onto the tracks to pull up a drunk guy who'd fallen there:

... I thought that was so brave! Luckily there was no train approaching otherwise it could have ended in a nightmare...what a day!

Mother dead, son shot

When police arrived at 35 Fernwood Ave. in Revere this afternoon, they found Lisa Bryson Roche, 42, with stab wounds, her son, Cory, 23, nearby with a knife. And when Cory Roche refused to drop his knife, an officer shot him, according to Suffolk County DA Dan Conley.

Cory Roche is expected to survive, Conley said at a press conference this evening. Late word is that he's been charged with murder and will be arraigned in the morning in Chelsea District Court.

New train in old station

The MBTA finally rolled out the first of its new Blue Line trains today, and SignalPAD was there to take one of its first runs. Over the next 18 months, the T says it will replace the current 70 old cars with 94 new ones.

Eastie's Lewis Forman is looking forward to the quieter, more comfortable ride promised by the T.

Memo to drug dealers: Chewing the skin off your fingertips may not help you avoid arrest

A Revere man faces heroin-distribution charges despite mutilating his fingertips in an attempt to prevent investigators from matching him to evidence, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

Rafael Cesario, 31, was arrested last week, along with two other men, on charges they ran a drug-distribution ring out of an apartment at 54 Shirley Ave. From a press release:

Suffolk County prosecutors successfully argued to have "major case prints" – inked impressions of the palm and entire length of the fingers ... because he had either burned or chewed off his own fingerprints. Investigators took his booking photo to the Registry of Motor Vehicles Facial Recognition Unit, which used biometric identification technology to match him with an active Massachusetts driver's license in that name – as well as a denied application for a license under [another name]
