DA: Man didn't just kick partner when he was down - he bit off part of his nose as well

A Swampscott man allegedly expressed his frustrations at a partner pulling out of a business venture by knocking him to the ground outside a Revere restaurant, kicking him and then tearing a chunk of his nose off with his teeth, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Kenneth Michaud, 41, was arraigned today on charges of mayhem, assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to kill for the May 2 incident outside Renzo Brick Oven Pizzeria on Revere Beach Boulevard, the DA's office says. Chelsea District Court Judge Benjamin Barnes released Michaud on personal recognizance.

Bringing the battle against a Suffolk Downs casino to Revere

The Revere Journal reports on one man's campaign against the proposed Suffolk Downs casino, which would be mostly in East Boston, but enough in Revere that that city gets to vote on allowing it as well.

DA: Blue Line rider attacked into unconsciousness by man enraged at demand he put out his cigarette

A Medford man and his Winthrop girlfriend were arraigned today on charges of armed assault with intent to murder for a March 24 incident on the Blue Line that left a rider unconscious and with serious injuries that might have been even worse if the man had managed to get access to his knife, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to prosecutors, Paul Mucci, 48, became enraged that morning when another rider on an outbound Blue Line train told him to extinguish the cigarette he'd lit just past Revere Beach. Mucci allegedly head-butted the man, then kicked and punched him repeatedly as he tried to get the knife he had clipped to the back of his belt:

Sweet deal that went sour winds up in court

NECCO has sued one of its distributors, charging the company stopped paying its bills and threatened to "flood the market" with cheap knock-offs of candy hearts and wafers.

In a suit filed yesterday in US District Court, the Revere-based candy maker says it wants the $378,532.44 it claims Allied International Co. owes it in unpaid invoices, plus lots of damages.

NECCO alleges that Allied stopped paying its invoices for deliveries to the Dollar General chain in October and that when NECCO asked for its money and threatened to start servicing Dollar General itself, Allied sent a message that wouldn't fit on a candy heart:

[An Allied official] threatened that, if NECCO exercised its right to withhold product and/or ship directly to Dollar General, Allied would seek to materially harm NECCO's business through, but not limited to, flooding the market with knock-off product that would compete directly with the NECCO brand. Allied made these extortionate threats in order to coerce NECCO to continue to deal through Allied.

Students descend on Revere Beach and enjoy the day

Some braved the water at Revere Beach.

Some braved the water at Revere Beach.

State and Revere Police braced for trouble today on receiving intelligence that hordes of Boston high-school students were going to skip class and descend on the little seaside town and do what hordes of Boston high-school students are supposedly wont to do.

Flocks of state troopers walked up and down the sidewalk in the hot sun in their warm uniforms. State troopers on motorcycles drove up and down the sidewalk, looking state-trooper tough. Motorcycle cops patrolled the road. A K9 unit was on hand for extra snarly attitude; at the State Police station, a mobile command center had its satellite dish in the upright position.

Eventually, small groups of high-school students showed up to join the locals and college kids already on hand. They proceeded to do what everybody else was doing: Hang out, toss balls around, flirt and just enjoy the day. Shocking, indeed.

Kelly's lineThe closest Revere Beach got to a commotion was when people lined up at Kelly's.

The official Cowboy of the Commonwealth needs an official Sandwich of the Commonwealth on those long trail rides

So what was state Rep Kathi Reinstein's initial reaction to the news that her colleagues will consider making Rex Trailer the official state cowboy?

"What about Fluff?" the Revere Democrat tweeted this morning.

Of course! You may recall Reinstein filed a bill in 2006 to make the Fluffernutter the official Sandwich of the Commonwealth after state Sen. Jarrett Barrios, D-Somerville-for-Christ's-sake, proposed banning Fluff from school menus.

Reinstein followed up that she has not filed a Fluffernutter bill this year, but:

Am ALWAYS a supporter of Fluff. If enough people reach out perhaps I'll file it again.

So, people, get at her.

DA: Case against alleged gang member won't be hurt by courthouse theft of gun held as evidence against him

The Herald reports a clerk magistrate at Chelsea District Court has been reassigned to another court as investigators try to figure out how three guns being held in a court evidence safe were stolen.

Two of the guns were from cases in which the trials had already ended, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. The third, however, was being held as evidence against Sokhorn Sor, still awaiting trial in Suffolk Superior Court for illegal weapons possession.

The Herald says Sor's lawyer will move to have the case against her client thrown out. Channel 4 reports Sor is an alleged member of the Bloods gang in Revere.

Jake Wark, spokesman for the DA's office, says prosecutors still have a case even without the Sig Sauer P232:

East Boston man faces eighth OUI charge

State Police report an East Boston man who's already been ordered to stay away from the wheel for the rest of his life was arrested for drunk driving Wednesday night in Revere.
