The US Attorney's office reports the indictment of two Revere men on extortion charges. The feds ID one of them as Anthony "Spucky" Spagnolo, 72, "the acting boss" of the "New England Family of La Cosa Nostra."
Only an old-time Bostonian would call himself Spucky, since the kids these days only know from sub rolls.

When J and I arrived at Suffolk Downs the weekend before last, there was a little girl loudly cheering for her favorite jockey as she made her way into the Winner’s Circle: Janelle Campbell, the same jockey I’d photographed last year as she sat beaming atop her mount. Being a jockey, I explained in that post, is every horse-crazy girl’s dream job. After Suffolk Downs is shuttered, who will horse-crazy little girls cheer for? Their favorite poker stars or blackjack dealers?
We need to stop litter and keep Massachusetts clean by spreading the word about the Yes on Question 2 campaign.
The Bottle Bill is the most effective recycling tool we have. Eighty percent of bottles covered by the Bottle Bill’s 5-cent deposit are recycled. Yes on Question 2 would add a bottle deposit to water, sports drinks, tea, juices, and other drinks that were not included in the original bill because they were not popular when the law was passed in 1982.
We need your vote on November 4 to update the Bottle Bill.

State Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office today released an interview with Marlene Taraskiewicz, whose daughter Susan was murdered in September, 1992.
In the interview, Traskiewicz pleads for anybody with information to contact State Police, but adds:
We've been here 22 years. I am a very healthy woman and I am not going away. You're going to look over your shoulder until the day that I go, but I will get you, and I will get justice for my Susan.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports that when a 21-year-old got kicked out of a party on Oak Tree Lane in Revere for brawling, he went and got his pa and a female relative and returned to apply some justice:
The 21-year-old and 50-year-old men are believed to have struck the residence with rocks and baseball bats.
Unfortunately for them, the 77-year-old owner of the house, Robert Distefano, had them outgunned - in the form of a deceased family member's handgun, which he grabbed before confronting them outside:

WCVB reports on the fire last night in an apartment building at 190 Campbell Ave. The Red Cross reports more than 35 people were made homeless.
The victim was 64.
Revere and State Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office are investigating the fire, but a spokesman for the DA's office says:
Although the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation, there was no preliminary evidence to suggest it was intentionally set.

WBZ reports Revere Police have arrested a woman on charges she rummaged around a Revere firehouse while firefighters were at a fire and then used one firefighter's credit card at some local stores.
National Weather Service experts report that based on the evidence on the ground, the tornado that hit Revere this morning seemed to have had maximum winds of 120 m.p.h. and that it traveled two miles on the ground along Broadway.
The funnel, 3/8 of a mile wide, would be an EF2 on the 0-5 scale used to measure tornadoes.

Two bystanders at a fight outside a Revere Beach club wound up shot early this morning, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
Both victims, a man, 33, and a woman, 36, were taken to Mass. General and are expected to survive. Mike, who first reported the incident, said one was shot in the leg and one in the foot.
