Woman hit by tow truck in Brighton Center dies

Boston Police report the woman, struck at Chestnut Hill Avenue and Washington Street around 6 p.m. yesterday, has died. The crash remains under investigation; no charges have been issued.

Boston Police report arresting a Brighton man for breaking into two Brighton Center stores early this morning after, they say, he returned to the scene of the crime while officers were still there:

[One] store owner was contacted and he confirmed that a 42' flat screen television was missing from the store. Officers remained on scene to clear the premises to make sure that the suspect was no longer inside to process the crime scene and while there an officer outside observed an individual matching the suspect description outside the store who was acting strangely. The officer reported that the suspect attempted to enter the store at 415 Washington St. while officers were still inside. The suspect was stopped and a threshold inquiry conducted during which he was found to be in possession of a hammer tucked into the small of his back.

At Clark F. Maddock's nearby apartment, police say, officers found a 42' flat-screen TV, numerous boxes of cigarettes and wet clothing matching that described by witnesses.

T cops ticketing people parking at bus stops in Brighton Center

Nathan Spencer and Rory Razon report the amazing sight this morning. Razon adds:

The most obnoxious thing about people that park at bus stops in Brighton Center is that there is a TON of legal on street parking available. If money is the issue with ticketing more often, deputize me and I'll do it for free.

No doubt there's a good reason for a BTD worker to park in a bus stop

Just because I can't think of one doesn't mean there isn't one. So why would a Boston Transportation Department worker block a Brighton Center bus stop and force a guy with a cane into the street to board a 57 bus?

Oh, of course there's a good reason! As the person who took the photo explains:

The BTD truck driver was parking to buy scratch tickets and ignored the man with the cane that was waiting for the bus. He threw the ticket out the window into the back of his truck afterwards.

Carolyn Grantham, raised in a place that knows from fish and chips, explains why she won't be returning to the Battery, an allegedly authentic fish-and-chips place that recently opened on Washington Street in Brighton Center:

On the Redstar Perspective, Leigh mourns the passing of a growing number of locally owned shops and hopes the fun, quirky neighborhood doesn't become another soulless condo warren:

... There is a vibrant street life here; in our walks the M.A.S. and I will pass older Russian couples arguing, Irish rugby players headed into the Green Briar pub or Porterbelly's, Orthodox children playing in their yards, and BC fashionistas out for a run. It's cool here. I like it. And I know from direct experience that this affordable urban moment in time could certainly come to pass given the forces of private development we donâ€™t easily resist in our lives. But for Christ's sake, I don't want a Smokey Joe's. I can drive to the strip mall in Stoughton should I really have a hankering for mass-marketed ribs.
