6 House reopens tomorrow

The 6 House, the Southie bar whose license was suspended after a double stabbing last month, will reopen tomorrow, according to the Boston Globe.

Angela, who used to work there, approves, as does frequent patron Talonvaki, who heard the news from a homeless guy in the street before it was in any newspaper.

The 6 House around 7:30 p.m. yesterday. At least there weren't any news trucks near it.

Talonvaki reports:

We went over to the 6 House at around 9:30 for dinner and a few drinks. Except they were closed. Maybe it's just because it was a slow night with the thunderstorm and no baseball game and all. ...

Talonvaki made a point of going to 6 House last night and writes that she is impressed that bar workers were trying to save Adam Rich's life while police were still putting on rubber gloves and that before Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis suggests the bar be shut, he might want to look at his department's performance in the area:

...[T]here's a police station almost across the street from the 6 House. If there have been two stabbings in a month, well...shouldn't that reflect on the cop shop more than the establishments? Wouldn't you tend to think that, with a police station in the neighbourhood, crime would be lower on average? Somehow, I think they're more to blame than the ghost of Whitey Bulger.

Whatever. I am so glad we went tonight. I love that place...perhaps more now than ever.

Dorchester man arrested for spilled-beer murder

Boston Police report arresting Bernard Piscopo, 38, for the murder of Adam Rich at the 6 House bar in South Boston on Sunday.

An argument over a spilled beer allegedly escalated into a brawl in which Rich, 26, of Revere, and a friend were stabbed.

Piscopo is scheduled to be arraigned in South Boston District Court Wednesday morning.

It's the South Boston bar where that poor guy got stabbed to death over a spilled beer. Angela spent nearly a year working there and writes that the Herald is just wrong in the way it portrays the place:

... It wasn't filled with Irish mobsters, stabbings are not a regular occurrence and if anything, it's a yuppie bar. Yes, I said it - YUPPIES. Young Urban Professionals. Preps. White collar pukes. Trust fund babies. Whatever you want to call them. Tell me, where else do you find a young 20-something ask, "what types of ales do you have," or request that his drink be served, "neat." ...

I am not trying to make light of the death of a 26 year-old. Itâ€™s a horrible story and a young guy was killed, but the owners of The Six House are good guys. ... I think it's a little harsh to shut the place down, putting 15 good people out of work because a bunch of assholes, who probably got wasted at other bars, decided to finish their night at the Six House and cause trouble. ...

Double stabbing leaves one dead in South Boston

Boston Police report they are investigating a double stabbing at the 6 House Bar, 29 W. Broadway around 1:44 a.m. One man, 26, was stabbed in the chest and stomach; pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center. The second, 23, also stabbed several times, was taken to Mass. General for non-life threatening injuries.
