Boston Police report arresting Gerald Lenzel Bowens, 25, of Malden, on charges he ended an argument with Timothy Walton, 32, of Roxbury Wednesday night by repeatedly stabbing Walton at Massachusetts Avenue and Albany Street, just down the street from the Boston Medical Center emergency room. Crash at Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street

Rosabri Mejia came across the crash between a scooter and an SUV at the large intersection around 9 p.m. Live Boston reports the scooter driver was taken away in critical condition.

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans to refashion the historic but dilapidated Alexandra Hotel at Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street into a 156-room, 13-floor hotel with ground-floor and roof-deck restaurants. Read more.

New Boston Ventures has filed plans with the BPDA to replace the Harriet Tubman House on Columbus Avenue at Massachusetts Avenue with a six-story condo building that would feature a "social enterprise cafe" and space for programs run by the United South End Settlements - which is selling the site to the developers and plans to use the proceeds to renovate its other building on Rutland Street and to support its community programs. Boston Police report arresting two people around 4 a.m. in connection with gunfire at Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue - a woman they say fired a gun more than once down Mass. Ave. in the general direction of the Southeast Expressway and a man they say tried to cover for her even as he was packing a loaded gun. Read more.

Truck blocking major intersection of Huntington Ave. and Massachusetts Ave. with sign that tells people they can find out what punishment by transportation means

In Boston, "punishment by transportation" really means having a green light at the intersection of Huntington Avenue and Mass. Ave., only you can't go, because the driver of a truck whose side promises an answer to the question of what "punishment by transportation" means went into the intersection even though he couldn't get through it and then got stuck, blocking traffic, as Phil Winley shows us.

Bicycle activists placed red cups along bike lanes this morning to honor Dave Salovesh, a Washington, DC bicyclist who died this week when a man in a stolen mini-van ran a red light and hit him.

Peter Cheung reports he placed a string of the cups along Mass. Ave. southbound past Melnea Cass Boulevard, because it heads into Dorchester, which he says is way underserved when it comes to bike lanes: Read more.

Rod needs to be tamped down on Massachusetts Avenue

A concerned citizen files a 311 complaint about this strip of metal on Mass. Ave.:

I took a terrible fall on Friday evening, tripping on this metal rail. I think it should be attended to, at least bent down. There's a lot of people around there for the Symphony.

A City Council committee will hold a hearing on a proposal by Councilor Althea Garrison (at large) to urge the BPDA to quash developers' plans to renovate the crumbling eyesore of the former Alexandra Hotel on Washington Street at Massachusetts Avenue by building a 13-story boutique hotel inside a renovated facade.

Unusual for a hearing request, however, no other councilors had their names added as co-sponsors. Read more.

Cambridge Police report arresting a Brookline man they say drove on the sidewalk in front of the Lafayette Square fire house on Mass. Ave. at "an extremely high rate" of speed before he got back in the road in time to run the red light at Mass. Ave. and Sidney Street, shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday. Read more.
