Catherine Vitale, Shannon Llewellyn and Danielle Mazzeo, who showed up outside the mayor's house in Roslindale around 7:30 a.m. to bang on buckets and yell, were all charged with "targeted residential picketing" in violation of a city ordinance that bans standing outside somebody's house and screaming before 9 in the morning. A Roslindale man had bail set at $7,500 on Friday when he was arraigned on charges of extortion, larceny over $1,200 and witness intimidation for what the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says started with a dispute with a former business partner and ended with him threatening to kill a detective trying to mediate the disagreement and then threatening to kill and rape other officers and their families after he was brought in for booking. Shortly after 5 p.m, gunfire erupted on Belgrade Avenue near Aldrich Street in Roslindale. At least one house hit by a bullet - and the driver of a car with its front windshield blasted with bullet holes fled the scene towards West Roxbury Parkway. Read more.

Boston Police conducted active-shooter drills this week, including outside school, giving officers a chance to practice how they'd respond to a person with a high-capacity weapon running amok.

The only problem, at least at the Irving Middle School in Roslindale today, is that the school was locked down today and at least some teachers were told this was no drill. Read more.

Crab Shack going into Roslindale

Update: Liquor license request approved. Board also granted temporary food-service license so the restaurant can open as soon as it can, without waiting for the state's approval process for the liquor license.

The Boston Licensing Board next week considers plans by the owners of an under-construction crab shack on American Legion Highway in Roslindale to buy the beer and wine license of a defunct Vietnamese place downtown - once again giving Roslindale and Hyde Park diners the choice of three Cajun seafood restaurants. Double rainbow over Pleasure Bay in South Boston

It didn't last long, but a wind-heavy storm brought down trees and power lines in Hyde Park and Roslindale and turned Truman Parkway by the Hyde Park Stop & Shop into a lake.

A Roslindale man was arraigned today on charges he punched a woman in the face in the Arnold Arboretum and then raped her repeatedly on Aug. 13, 2013, and will be arraigned on Monday on charges he raped a 16-year-old on Morton Street in Mattapan on April 1, 2007, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
