The Transcript reports on a little domestic disturbance on Johnswood Road in Roslindale this past Friday:

Theodore Sullivan, 51, of 36 Johnswood Road, Roslindale, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a lamp) after he allegedly attacked a person known to him during an argument over the microwave oven not being cleaned. When Sullivan found the dirty appliance, he reportedly threw a ceramic lamp at the head of the person he believed was at fault. ...

Either the state is getting ready to put Rte. 1 back on its proper path along the Arborway/VFW Parkway or somebody has been inhaling too many paint fumes at the Department of Conservation and Recreation sign shop. How else to explain this sign, which recently went up where Centre Street turns into the VFW Parkway in Roslindale - 19 years after the state decided Rte. 1 was going to go south via 128 North?

Biggest local ice-cream company you've never heard of turns 100

Anybody who drives on Washington Street south of Forest Hills knows the Puritan Ice Cream building - that sad looking brick building with the "Retail Store in Back" sign that never actually looks like it's open.

Rhea Becker reports that not only is it open, but it's 100 years old this year.

But, have any of you ever actually bought any of its three-gallon tubs of ice cream? Maybe that's why they're not better known.

He was, allegedly, referring to a proposed tax on private colleges with endowments of more than $1 billion.

The Square Corner Cafe on Washington Street is getting closer to opening - they've posted menus in the window.

And those menus look a lot like the menus at the area's other "cafe" - the Checkmate: Pizzas, subs and pasta, with a few things such as salmon thrown in. No breakfast listed.

West Roxbury, Roslindale car owners need to remember they live in a city

Boston Police report that of 20 car break-ins reported in District E-5 (West Roxbury and Roslindale) since April 24, 18 involved cars that were unlocked. Also: Leaving MP3 players, gym bags, GPS systems and wallets (wallets? sheesh) in plain view in your car is really asking for trouble.

On the plus side, police say they arrested a guy yesterday they think was involved in several of the above incidents.
