Clay Buchholz

He changes his mind on feats of Clay

After watching Clay Buchholz outpitch Ray Halladay last night, Rob apologizes for doubting Buchholz had a future:

You shut me up, didn't you? ...

Buch is back?

Good start by Buchholz last night, but Rob is cautious:

... It's how he deals with Major League adversity that has been his problem. And until he can demonstrate otherwise, we must assume it remains a chink in his armor. ...

Teddy Kokoros marvels at both Buchholz and Daniel Bard.

Mike Giardi cannot believe some PawSox fans booed Clay Buchholz during his last start.

How Sox fans get ulcers

Beth reports if anybody was more anxious during last night's game than Clay Buchholz, it was her:

... My heart was in my throat, watching this. Suddenly I was certain I was about to see Buchholz give up a three-run homer. Maybe it's necessary, I thought, like some sort of initiation rite. He can't be perfect forever, so why not break him in now? That's at least one possible explanation for why Tito didn't have anyone up behind Buchholz even as he walked Markakis to load the bases.

Or maybe that was an "I believe in you, kid," move. Maybe a little of both. Either he sinks or he swims. This is annoying to fans as it is not purely about winning the game. At least, not this particular game, tonight. Instead, seemingly with a much bigger picture in mind, Tito put it all on the line with Buchholz on the mound.

Impossible to overstate the terror in that bases-loaded, no-out situation. ...

Some blog reaction (with more to come, no doubt):

Jason Butler: This may be a special year for the Red Sox yet. I believe.
