Crackdown on bicyclists

75 bike riders have received tickets so far this afternoon as the city has chosen to crack down on traffic violations around the BU Bridge on Commonwealth Avenue.

The city put out a statement about the enforcement effort citing a number of recent crashes between cars and bicycles at the bridge intersections.

The BU Bridge was closed for repairs tonight, but apparently nobody told at least one driver on the 47 bus. Marti V. tweeted her ride from the Boston side of the river to Central Square tonight:

Kathy reports there's a gaggle of geese under the BU bridge. By itself, no big deal, except the goslings are now big enough to notice that while some are obviously the spawn of the white adult geese that watch over them, some have the black legs of Canada geese:

... So it looks like maybe some Canada gooselings imprinted on domesticated parents. So what type do you think these Canadas will try to mate with when they grow up?

Longfellow Bridge is falling down, falling down? Sorta, but not really, state says. Which, as Michael Pahre recalls, is what the state said about the BU Bridge upriver:

Few people would likely disagree that the DCR (and its predecessor agencies) has a poor record in maintaining their infrastructure, although some blame could easily be pointed at the State Legislature and/or Governor for failure to allocate sufficient funding. But the DCR should do a better job at recognizing and reporting the condition of the infrastructure under their control, rather that making public misstatements or engaging in peculiar reporting practices. The public statements of DCR officials about the current condition of their bridges is straining their credibility.

Dodge Viper no match for stoplight

Anyone see the bright orange muscle car's run-in with a stoplight just after the bridge at around 9 this morning? Caused a big backup, from the look of things. I was on my bike and without camera. Hope the driver's OK - was on a stretcher when I passed by. Slow down out there!
