Large construction project to get underway near Kenmore Square

Construction begins next summer on a $500-million project across from Fenway Park that will replace a non-descript parking lot and aging commuter-rail station with new housing and offices - some built on a deck across the turnpike - and a large new train station, developer John Rosenthal and city and state officials said today.

Another Brookline bicyclist hit by car

Nick Bonadies tweets a bicyclist was hit by a car this morning at Beacon and Marion streets, across from the 7-Eleven, possibly by a car that cut her off in an attempt to make a right turn.

That makes at least three bicyclists hit by cars in two weeks in a town that has been busy putting in bicycle lanes. No word on his condition, but cops and EMTs were on scene when Bonadies went by.

Brookline on the alert after pod attack

Brookline Police report an incident on Beacon Street near Washington Square:

Victim reported that a pane of his condo's glass window was found broken. Victim stated that before the break he had heard a loud sound of breaking glass. A crab apple sized pod was found on the kitchen floor. The pods grow in the rear of the condo. Police checked the rear of the building.

Donald Sutherland was unavailable for comment.

First the C line died past Coolidge Corner thanks to some sort of power problem, now, around 8 p.m. on Move-In Monday, the B isn't going past Babcock outbound thanks to a dead trolley.

A tree falls in Brookline, knocks out Green Line service

The T is busing commuters from Coolidge Corner to Cleveland Circle on the C line because a tree fell on the trolley tracks at Fairbanks Street.

Police: Pack of teens showing guns, stealing iPhones near Public Garden

Boston Police report three armed holdups around the Public Garden within a span of a few minutes Thursday evening. In all three cases, the victims were robbed of iPhones by Hispanic males in their late teens or early 20s.

In one case, a man reported he was approached by four or five Hispanic teens who showed a gun, demanded money, got away with his iPod. In another case, a man reported he was talking on his iPhone when approached by four Hispanic teens, one of whom ripped the phone from his hand and ran in the direction of Beacon Street.

In the third case, a man walking down Public Alley 421, near Beacon and Arlington, was on his iPhone when approached by two young Hispanic males, one of whom showed a gun and demanded his phone. In that case, police say one of the suspects was about 5'7," clean shaven and with a long dark pony tail, dressed in a gray hoody and sweatpants.

Man charged with renting out apartment he didn't own

Boston Police report that when officers went to 587 Beacon St. to evict a woman squatting in an apartment there, the woman said she'd just rented the place from the building owner, who gave her a key and everything.

According to the building manager, the person named by the victim as the owner of the building was, in fact, not the owner.

While officers were talking to the victim, the victim’s cell phone rang. The victim promptly stated to the officers that the call was from the suspect. Officers instructed the victim to set up a meeting with the suspect, during which the victim could pay the suspect the remainder of the money. As instructed, the victim asked the suspect to meet her in front of 587 Beacon Street. When the suspect showed up to claim his money, officers took the suspect into custody.

Officers then made sure that Nicholas Toledo, 23, had a place to stay for the weekend so that he could appear in court bright and early on Monday to answer a charge of fraud. This is not Mr. Toledo's first run-in with the police at that address. See the second item here.
