Northeastern grad student learns about the Mass. General Laws

So this Northeastern grad student sees Northeastern cops grilling a couple of non-students whom they suspected of attacking and punching two undergrads and decides to get involved - by telling the guys they don't have to say anything because the uniforms "aren't real cops." The cops tell him to go away, but he refuses and just keeps repeating how they aren't real cops.

At which point, the Huntington News reports, the cops decided to show him just how real they were, by arresting him for disorderly conduct (he was due for arraignment this week in Roxbury District Court). Apparently, the student had failed to read Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 22c, section 63:

Such special state police officers shall serve for three years, subject to removal by the colonel [of the State Police], and they shall have the same power to make arrests as regular police officers for any criminal offense committed in or upon lands or structures owned, used or occupied by such college, university, or other institution or hospital.

Smart until proven dumb.

And you don't slam a door in a Boston police officer's face. A Northeastern student allegedly learned that around 1 this morning when he and four other Huskies were arrested on charges of partying a bit too hardy at 610 Columbus Ave.

Boston Police report that Northeastern University has bought a new bird bath for the 93-year-old Hillside Street resident who'd had her bird bath stolen a couple weeks ago by some "drunk college kids."

$25,000 reward posted for information about the murder of a Northeastern student

The family of Rebecca Payne, Northeastern University and Legal Seafood have put up the reward for information that leads police to her killer, Boston Police report.

Payne, a Northeastern student who worked at Legal, was found shot to death in her Parker Hill Avenue apartment early on May 20.

"We know that there are people who have valuable information, so we ask individuals to look deep into their hearts and help us bring the person responsible for this horrible and senseless act to justice," said Rebecca's father, Nicholas Payne.

Goofus and Gallant, Criminal Edition

Well, we haven't had a good Northeastern party story lately. Boston Police report on an alleged Goofus at a boisterous bash around 3 this morning at 3 Folsom St. on Mission Hill.

When the squad cars arrived, most people left, but, police say, this one dude began mouthing off and refusing to tell them who he was. Even still, police say, they let him go. Then officers heard somebody banging on the door - along with a chorus of other residents complaining about it. Dude!

Officers then told the suspect that if he did not stop banging on the door he would be placed under arrest for being a Disorderly Person. As officers were going back in the apartment, the suspect pushed the door striking the officers.

So now he gets to plead innocent in Roxbury District Court to assault and battery on a police officer and disturbing the peace.

Criminal Gallant is a South Boston teen arrested yesterday evening for allegedly stealing a woman's wallet at the Shaw's at 370 Western Ave. in Brighton. When oficers found him on Lincoln Street and radioed to have the victim brought over, he allegedly told police:

"That's me! I'm the suspect. I took the lady's wallet. It's in my pocket."

Nicholas Sova, the Northeastern student who simply vanished after the Super Bowl, has turned up safe and sound in Paris, Boston Police report:

Mr. Sova has contacted his parents to inform them that he's doing fine.

The stupid parking ban in the Fenway

Dave Alpert is one grumpy Fenway resident this morning, what with city towtrucks pulling cars away at the crack of dawn today (well, 8 a.m.), the better to give the tactical units room to move in on the hordes of drunken college students the city expects after the Super Bowl:

... So, why ban the cars? The cars aren't the ones drinking 40s, making noise, raping and pilaging.

Why not just ban the Northearstern students? Not that I think the Northeastern students are bad kids. But, obviously, the police believe they are guilty until proven innocent. Therefore, they are punishing the entire neighborhood. I live in a project building with hard working families, elderly and working stiffs. There are no undergrads here. The neighborhood is full of people like us, and we are continuously made to suffer. I thought collective punishment was against the law in this country. ...

Fenway bracing for post-Super Bowl trouble

Fenway? Colin the Bold reports parking meters all around the neighborhood are already plastered with "No Parking Sun - Mon" signs. Huh? Oh, right, Boylston Street, the preferred rioting grounds of students everywhere.

But lest one think the BPD is discriminating against Northeastern and BU students, Police Commissioner Ed Davis warns he will brook no nonsense from anybody Sunday night:

Davis said come Sunday night, police will be on every corner near college areas.

That's a lot of corners, from Brighton to downtown.
