Somebody went through a fair amount of red spray paint to tag the First Baptist Church on Centre Street with anti-gay graffiti overnight.

Stanley Staco reports a guy in an SUV tried running over a BPD officer on Wachusett Street and Eldridge Road in Jamaica Plain around 8 p.m. and the officer shot the SUV, cracking its windshield, but without stopping the vehicle. Live Boston reports police found the vehicle about a half mile away on Weld Hill Street, but that the driver is still missing. The officer was uninjured.

Remains of a car smashed into the wall outside Angell Animal Medical Center

Shamus Moynihan reports heading over to Angell Animal Medical Center on South Huntington Avenue at Castleton Street from his nearby home after hearing "a long tire screech" and then the sound of a car crashing into the brick wall the MSPCA apparently had the forethought to put up along its property.

This great blue heron in Jamaica Pond was just hanging out, looking for fish to spear, when it suddenly unfurled one of its wings (and then promptly furled it again).

Man wanted for indecent assault, whipping out his junk

Transit Police report they are looking for a guy they say first rubbed against or grabbed a woman as they were boarding a 34E bus at Forest Hills, then, once the bus was rolling, whipped out his alleged manhood, around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Read more.

Yesterday morning, the Orange had a Jackson Square crotch exposer, then, just to mix things up, in the evening, at the very same station, Transit Police report, officers arrested a woman, 38, for "attempting/threatening to assault multiple other passengers onboard OL train with a Ball Peen hammer." She was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Reginald Mobley & Stephen Stubbs: Time Stands Still (Preview)

Among the singers at this morning's coronation was Jamaica Plain's Reginald Mobley, a countertenor singing with a choir at Westminster Abbey. Mobley, who has an album of spirituals coming out later this month, now tours the country and world, but he's also performed locally.

A federal judge today sentenced Shaun "Rev" Harrison to ten years in federal prison for helping to run a local chapter of the Latin Kings and for shooting an English High School student point blank in the back of the head in 2015. Read more.

A man with a gunshot wound to the foot was dropped off at the emergency room at Faulkner Hospital around 9 p.m. Police are investigating whether it's related to a more serious shooting around 4 p.m. on Homes Avenue in Dorchester.

Lisa Kashinsky reports that William MacGregor has won the special Democratic primary in the 10th Suffolk District (West Roxbury, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and South Brookline) over Robert Orthman and Celia Segel, which means he will likely succeed former state Rep. Ed Coppinger since there are no Republican or other candidates for the final later this month.

Mayor Wu today announced an expanded "Open Streets" program in which Newbury Street in the Back Bay will be closed to motor vehicles every Sunday between July 2 and Oct. 15 and five streets in other neighborhoods will be shut to cars and trucks for one-day celebrations. Read more.

Democratic voters in the 10th Suffolk state representative's district (West Roxbury and parts of Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and South Brookline) vote tomorrow in a special primary to determine who gets on the ballot later this month, but since there are no Republican or independents running, the winner will most likely replace Ed Coppinger, who resigned from the seat earlier this year.
