Mayor Walsh today annnounced a ten-year program, called Boston Creates, to "weave arts and culture into the fabric of everyday life" in the city.
The city will set aside money each year for public art projects - 1% of each year's spending on capital projects. One of the first areas to benefit will be Hyde Square in Jamaica Plain, where the city Public Works Department will spend $100,000 on public art to go along with a planned road upgrade. Read more.

UPDATE: Deer found healthy enough to be released, which it was, in a location that was not the Arboretum or Franklin Park, at the direction of state Environmental Police.
A young deer's explorations of Jamaica Plain came to an end this evening in a backyard on Jess Street, a dead end behind the Brewery complex where two Boston Animal Control workers captured it, a couple hours after firefighters had spotted it, possibly injured, on Boylston Street at Amory. Around 3:40 a.m. on March 26, their windows closed on a chilly night, residents of Kittredge Street in Roslindale were jolted awake by the sound of gunfire. It was, a federal indictment charges today, an attempt by a member of a Jamaica Plain gang to murder an associate of a rival Jamaica Plain gang who was living near the intersection with Cliftondale. UPDATE, 10:10 a.m. The problem was briefly so severe the T was busing passengers between Forest Hills and Stony Brook, but they say it's all good now.
A T alert of "moderate" delays on the inbound Orange Line due to signal problems at Forest Hills was, of course, followed shortly after by a T alert of "moderate" delays on the outbound Orange Line.

On Friday, an ISD inspector slapped a stop-work order on one of the fences outside the former Yang's Martial Arts Academy on Hyde Park Avenue because the contractor never got a permit to demolish the building it demolished.
UPDATE: Developer says ISD issued all the relevant permits months ago, that ISD only issued the order because it misplaced them and that work has started again today. See the comments for more.

The BRA today approved construction of a 20-unit development on two acres of land on Allandale Road that its developer says will be the greenest project around but which opponents say could cause problems for the woods behind it.
The project, which would have 47 parking spaces, still needs approval by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
