According to a Boston Police report, a semi-automatic weapon was used to shoot up the area around 7 Rockdale St. around 8:40 p.m. on Monday. According to one report, two women got into a gunfight, but failed to hit anybody.

Used to be, guests checking into the West End hotel would be offered a complimentary flute of sparkling Spanish wine with their room keys.
The practice ended Aug. 13, when Boston Police detectives issued the hotel a citation for violating a state law banning free booze.
The Boston Licensing Board decides Thursday whether to punish the hotel - or whether to accept the hotel's argument that that free-alcohol thing prohibition only applies to restaurant and bar happy hours, which have been banned since the Dukakis era.

Boston Business Journal reports a local company has come up with robots aimed at further dehumanizing the workforce helping factory workers with repetitive tasks. For some reason, the robot has googly eyes.

State Public Health Commissioner Jon Auerbach today announced his resignation over the burgeoning crisis at the former DPH labs in Jamaica Plain, in which thousands of evidence samples in criminal cases were potentially done incorrectly.
It is clear that there was insufficient quality monitoring, reporting and investigating on the part of supervisors and managers surrounding the former Department of Public Health drug lab in Jamaica Plain – and ultimately, as Commissioner, the buck stops with me.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that courts have no place in deciding payment disputes between hospitals that treat large numbers of poor people and the state.
In a ruling on the way the state reimbursed Boston Medical Center for treating MassHealth patients in 2009, the state's highest court said the legislature explicitly excluded judicial oversight of the complex calculations - more than 100 pages in BMC's case - used to determine reimbursement, in part by not waiving the state's sovereign immunity protection against lawsuits.

A federal appeals court has upheld the right of Massachusetts police departments to deny people the right to bear certain arms if they lie on their permit applications.
The ruling means former Boston police officer Stacey Hightower can no longer carry a concealed .38 caliber five-round revolver - or carry high-capacity weaponry.

City Councilor Matt O'Malley (Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury) wants more signs and enforcement against double plarkers and people who park in bike lanes. And channeling his inner Larry David, he wants to crack down on pig parkers - people who don't care they've parked outside the lines of a parking space.
Cracking down on these behaviors could also help drivers by improving traffic flow, he says.
