Groupon's initial Boston deal today was for a shooting range:

A bullet travels at hundreds of miles per hour, much like a beam of light or a kiss blown by Paul Bunyan.

They've since switched that to a deal on a trolley tour of Boston.

The Boston Business Journal reports part of the Everett site Steve Wynn took a look at for a possible casino is actually in Boston - whose mayor has long and loudly backed a casino at Suffolk Downs. Wonder how long it would take the BRA to draw up casino-only zoning that would cover only one particular part of East Boston?

Old train terminal in Park Square

The Boston Public Library's posted this ad for the Providence and Boston train station that once sat where Columbus Avenue today enters Park Square - and which replaced an even older station. Note on this map that its tracks crossed the line of the Boston and Albany just before the station.

Here's a photo from sometime after its construction in 1872 - note the Lincoln statue, which remains in the square, although not in the same prominent location:

Remarkable project, the Urban Ring. The Mission Hill Gazette reports on a quiet little meeting at BRA headquarters to kick off planning for a study on linking the Blue and Silver lines as part of the Urban Ring - the crosstown subway bus line the state nailed to its perch in 2009.

"The project is dormant," Read explained. "Like trees, it'll come back to life when the season is right."

The formal announcement comes tonight, BPS tweeted, and removes a potential objection to rezoning by parents who already have kids in a Boston public school. That's the latest National Weather Service thinking for a storm that could hit us starting Sunday night.

However, the NWS warns us a much stronger storm might whack us Tuesday into Wednesday, which no rhyme can handle: "SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF RAIN AND/OR SNOW WOULD BE POSSIBLE."

Deadline Hollywood reports AMC is working on a series called "We Hate Paul Revere:"

It centers on two brothers living in Colonial Boston who are not fans of local industrialist and activist Paul Revere.

Could be worse: At least they're not doing a comedy about lunkhead townie bank robbers (yet).

Maybe they can get Paul Revere and the Raiders to do the soundtrack.

David notices Boston transportation services tend to be built in fives and then the powers that be eliminate one of them: There used to be five Green Line branches, five Silver Line routes and five terminals at Logan.

What's going on here? Do the planners have spooky Mickey Mouse hands? Does Boston overbuild then scale back? Shrinkage?
