Diplomatic solution to sidewalk defacement in Somerville

Tufts Daily reports cops didn't have much trouble convincing a student at Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy they had the goods on her for vandalizing some freshly poured sidewalk cement:

"Kind of easy to catch when you write your own name in there," TUPD Sgt. Robert McCarthy said.

Fortunately for her, the cement had yet to set, so she was able to smooth it out - under the watchful eye of campus police.

Tufts students asked not to burn down dorms while power is out

Among the electric customers to lose power due to the exploding manholes of doom today is Tufts University. Students are being asked not to light candles and to walk in groups if they have to go outside at night if the lights still aren't back on. The school says lights could be out for another eight to ten hours.

The artist who hates Shephard Fairey even more than Boston Police do

Tufts Daily reports a performance artist teaching a course at Tufts considers Fairey such a hypocrite that he had his students make up posters with the express purpose of pasting them over a mural Fairey had put up at the student center.

The postings came about as a result of a project in an Experimental College course on performance art. Since their discovery and partial removal last Tuesday, they have sparked a Tufts University Police Department report and an investigation by Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. They have also provoked ongoing dialogue over free speech, the institution of marriage and about how the greater Tufts community engages and views issues pertaining to social justice.

The Somerville Journal pulls back the covers on the annual Naked Quad Run at Tufts, held last night (for all the nudity, not a whole lot to actually see, if you know what I mean, but probably something best viewed in the privacy of your own home):

On the arrest of a mentor

Boston Shorty's heart broke when she heard that a mentor of hers at Tufts had been fired for allegedly embezzling $300,000:

... At first there was the shock, then the sadness, then anger, then justification, rationalization and everything else that comes along with the stages of grief. But now, I just feel hollow. It's as if whatever shred of faith I had left in humanity has been wiped away. My trust is gone. People more often than not disappoint, so what is the point in believing or trusting at all? It ends in heartache. And my heart aches. ...

Meanwhile, Philip McCarthy reports he worked for her during his time as a Tufts student, and cautions there are still unanswered questions about the missing money:

Is the Office of Student Activities merely the first layer to be peeled back on the rotten black banana of a new academic shakedown racket perpetrated by the nefarious Winter Hill Gang? Tufts students fight for their right to, um, fight

The Tufts Daily reports on the arrest of two fighting students (only one a Jumbo) outside a fraternity on Nov. 3:

... Officers learned later that the fight had started earlier that night in Houston Hall. They apparently fought about a beer, stopped fighting and went to a party. When they started to fight for the second time, the police were called.
