Tufts Daily chronicles the men's crew team, which was suspended for T-shirts reading "Check out our cox" after somebody complained that promoted "a culture of rape and sexual aggression," then unsuspended after the university president said the university did not want to infringe on "free expression" and that the real issue was that the team printed up unauthorized T shirts, not about whatever message they were sending with the slogan, and besides, the guys apologized.

The Globe also wrote about the issue, but could not bring itself to write out the word "cox," instead referring only to "a common abbreviation of the coxswain's title."

Here at ~~Phallus Daily~~ Universal Hub, of course, we long ago lost the pearls we once clutched to our chests on such occasions. Plus, in a previous job, we worked with a colleague named Cox, who reported to an editor named Dix.

BU announces new plans to deal with sexual assault two days after latest attack

The Metro reports BU today announced a new center to figure out ways to curb sexual assaults on campus.

The Daily Free Press, meanwhile, reports a woman getting out of an elevator in Warren Towers on Saturday was "inappropriately touched."

The justice system gave Cornell Smith a second chance. And a third. And a fourth. And now he stands accused of murdering an innocent Northeastern student in a case of mistaken identity.

A Suffolk County grand jury indicted Smith on Friday on charges he murdered Rebecca Payne in her Parker Hill Avenue apartment in 2008 by shooting her in the knees and the chest. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office says Payne, a New Milford, CT resident who had a job at Legal Seafood did not know Smith. Channel 7 reports police think Smith got Payne confused with another resident of the building, who looked like her - but who had some sort of gang affiliation.

BPD says the party's over for Suffolk students in the North End

Boston Police are stepping up patrols in the North End to crack down on both loud late-night parties by students and bars and restaurants that violate their license requirements, A-1 Captain Tom Lee says in an open letter to neighborhood residents.

In recent years, college students have come to rival rats as the annoyance most detested by residents. Lee says that among the steps he's taking are a general beefing up of patrols in the neighborhood, with a specific two-cop patrol along Hanover Street between 11:45 p.m. and 3:45 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, chats with both tenants cited for noise complaints and their landlords, to let them know just what sort of citations they could be getting for future violations, and working more closely with Suffolk on a weekend "noise patrol" that could mean college sanctions in addition to whatever BPD can dish out.

Lee says one neighborhood liquor store has already been cited for selling to a minor and for failing to keep minors from hanging out outside.

BC officials, police doubt Latina student's story that she was attacked twice last weekend

A Boston College vice president e-mailed students today to report an investigation by campus police found no basis to a freshman's story that she was the victim of two racially motivated attacks over the weekend. According to one account, she told police a man hurled a racial epithet at her Friday night, stabbed her and then found her the next night and began kicking her where bandages covered her stab wound.

But her story didn't hold up, Vice President for Student Affairs Patrick Rombalski wrote in an e-mail tonight: "BCPD has concluded that no threat was ever present to the BC community or to the individual," He added, however, that police are continuing to investigate a separate report that a driver yelled a racial epithet at another student as she walked on campus.

WBUR reports a male student was found with gunshot wounds on Allston Street across from Glenville Avenue around 2:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. BU Today reports he was a student in the Graduate School of Management. Boston Police report he was 24.

Channel 5 reports the apparent pledges at a non-sanctioned BU frat at 24 Ashford St. were also coated in flour when police found them in the basement early today and that frat members could face criminal charges.

The Huntington News has some problems of its own - but theirs are just computer related: The paper kept all its important software and licenses on a single server, and it just died:

Recently, the server hosting all software licenses, archives and fonts crashed. The News no longer has access to its contents, leaving staff to use their laptops and trial software to produce the paper.
