Mayor Menino says the city's heard growing cries from snowlocked residents of unplowed side streets: It's managed to find extra equipment to clear roads:

Our number one priority today is getting to the side streets. Residents have been very patient as we work to recover from the fifth largest snow storm to ever hit the City of Boston. We are doing everything we can to get additional pieces of equipment into residential areas, including coordinating with MEMA to get federal and state resources. As our crews work, I'm urging drivers to continue to stay off the roads.

"a totally clueless action by the media."

As has been well reported by several news outlets (and on this blog), a total travel ban is now currently in effect in Massachusetts. Yet, at least one of the local stations is continuing to broadcast traffic reports.

Potential penalties of up to a year in jail and a fine of $500. Emergency workers and certain other critical workers - fuel-oil, plow, hospital, utility workers - are exempted. So are reporters.

Channel 7's Nancy Chen just checked in from a hill in Worcester. Drink! Then she bent down and picked up some snow to make a snowball. But, darn, the snow was so dry, it just disintegrated. So we'll rate than a half drink.

The Boston Eruv, which maintains a series of markers and boundaries that give observant Jews a way to move things about in public on the Sabbath, should be considered inoperable because of the storm.
