Herald: You're kidding right? Bechtel checking tunnel repairs.

The Outraged Liberal is, of course, outraged:

... With Mitt off seducing the Mormon Church out of its cash and Kerry busy using copkillers and rapists to claim she's tough on crime, focus has turned away from the Big Dig -- and the flaming inconsistencies between Romney-Healey rhetoric and reality. ...

Mitt Romney's statement on marriage.

Michael on BunkoSquad: Get lost, Mitt:

The only things that make you actually show your face in the state you allegedly govern are disasters and antigay rallies. What a stand-up guy. ...

Amy vows to not let the roving T inspectors off easy:

... Fuck off, Mitt Romney. Do we really have to get into the "no probable cause" T searches again? This means I'm going to have to start carrying around Planned Parenthood literature, lubricant, gay porn, a large package of AA batteries, and a vibrator again when I ride the T. If they're going to violate my civil liberties, I'm going to make them sorry they bothered. ...

There has been quite an outcry at Blue Mass Group over the stealth nomination of James Lemire to a Superior Court Judgeship. The process stinks. His name was forwarded the day after the primary election when no one was paying attention and then they tried to bulldoze him through.

A Superior Court judge rules Rhode Island gays and lesbians can get married in Massachusetts.

Lissa Harris does some quick calculations and concludes: Good news for the Bay State economy.

Yes, that would be Gov. Mitt Romney, as described by Dan Kennedy:

... Romney may have "a genius for free PR," as the Phoenix's Adam Reilly writes. Unfortunately, crowd-pleasing assaults on free speech play well with the conservative voters whom the governor is courting in his pandering campaign for president.

Kimberly Atkins notes the arrival of spoof and negative YouTube videos for this year's elections.

The Outraged Liberal reads today's Globe article on Bechtel's apparent non-concern about I-90 connector bolts and concludes: Looks like Mitt Romney got the wrong scalp:

... Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff, the well-connected management company designed to oversee the project opted to save money rather than push for safety. Under the oversight of Kerasiotes. And Cellucci.

By adamg - 8/8/06 - 7:45 pm

Once might mean a pass. Twice, though? Shai Sachs writes that Mitt Romney's joke about the "war of northern aggression," coupled with his earlier tar-baby crack means just one thing: Mitt Romney has sold his soul to the white supremacists.

By adamg - 7/31/06 - 11:24 pm

Dan Kennedy is inclined to give Romney a pass - unless he uses the phrase again.

Ditto for Chris Cagle.

John Daley is flabbergasted that Mitt Romney vetoed funding to cover Big Dig ramps with parks and cultural facilities:

... By vetoing the money for covering the ramps through the Greenway, he is negating an important original objective of the Big Dig, a project that we've already paid for many times over, both in tax money and inconvenience. So now in addition to getting gouged we're going to rewind back to 1990 and just have to accept an eyesore running through the center of the city? ...

Matt Amorello's resignation will not solve the Big Dig's problems, Charley writes:

... So for all the glee about Amorello's departure, let's not forget that he didn't create the problems we're dealing with now. He merely threw up his hands and hoped for the best ... much like a certain governor, legislature, and state enforcement bureaucracy. ...

By adamg - 7/18/06 - 5:19 pm

Kimberly Atkins has the details of Romney's formal effort to remove Matt Amorello from office - which also includes a suit by three Romney appointees to the turnpike board against Amorello.

Spatch: Romney to Amorello: It's on, bitch:

... Too bad A. Romney's looking right into the eyes of 2008 when he bares his teeth, and B. someone had to die for the shakeup (shakedown?) to happen.

By adamg - 7/14/06 - 3:50 pm

Boston Magazine's City Journal claims to have exclusive photos of what really happened in that argument between Mitt Romney and Matt Amorello at the ceiling-collapse site.

Harold M. Clemons casts a Roxbury eye on the Big Dig scandal:

... They compare it to the Hoover Dam and the Panama Canal. I compare it to the New Deal because, on its account, good, decent, hardworking white boys that aren't highly educated can still make honest wages sufficient to provide for their families, while darkies of similar education and rearing fill the unemployment rolls and watch the prosperity from afar. On my word I ain't seen a nigga workin' the 'Dig' yet and it's been goin' on since I was like 10! ...

Jennifer Forman Orth, an invasive plant ecologist with the UMass-Boston biology department, has a leaf to pick with Mitt Romney and Howie Carr over their snickering about proposed funding for a program to do something about winter moths:

By adamg - 7/5/06 - 9:23 pm

You know how you can tell Mitt Romney no longer spends much time in Massachusetts? He doesn't seem to notice how badly defoliated our trees are.

By adamg - 6/29/06 - 5:54 pm

By saying that civilization rests on the principal of marriage being between one man and one woman, is Mitt Romney saying his great-grandfather was uncivilized?

John Daley, who knows something about policing, predicts that even if the Romney/Healey administration insists on the State Police checking the immigration status of everybody they stop, the troopers will simply ignore the mandate:

...[T]hey will lose the ability to work effectively with local police departments on joint investigations or initiatives. Forget counter-terrorism investigations. No one will in the communities will talk to them. ...
