Scratch That: Senator Kerry Speaks at Ward 5 Democratic Committee Meeting Tonight

-- Just learned that Senator Kerry cannot make it tonight...

Senator John Kerry is speaking at the Boston Ward 5 Democrat Committee meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at LIR in Boston. The public is invited to attend.

Considering that Senator Kerry is up for re-election this November, I hope we see him more at events like this.

Evan recounts an interesting discussion at his Fenway laundromat last night - involving some old timers who allowed as how the neighborhood used to be a hellhole but became safer as it gentrified, but:

Prosecutors: This time the young woman actually said she had a bomb

Jennifer Douglas, 28, is charged with making a false bomb threat by walking into BU's Mugar Library with two boxes and telling an employee she had a bomb yesterday evening.

The library was evacuated as the Boston Fire Department and the police bomb squad investigated. They eventually concluded the library was safe to re-open. The Daily Free Press reports the boxes contained a cuckoo clock, a framed picture and newspapers (it also published a picture of the boxes).

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports Douglas was arraigned this morning in Brighton District Court and was sent to the Eric Lindemann Center in Boston for 20 days to determine her competence.

Douglas could get between 2 1/2 and 20 years in jail, depending on the nature of the charges brought against her.

He warned that if allies in the Parks Department weren't properly placated, Fenway gardeners could lose their unique privileges. No other community garden has individual plots the size of ours, each with its own fence and gate. He even went so far as to say that there were those who would love to see the gardens themselves, which they consider an eyesore, disappear. ...
