Nate Swain, the artist who gave us the Lego wall, gives voice to that feeling everybody has when they walk past those sculpture things by the water.

Cambridge Day reports on an effort by two city councilors to make it a tad easier for local artists to qualify for affordable housing now that they've been priced out of the city. Other councilors, however, wondered why artists should get precedence when other people, such as teachers and firefighters, can't afford to live in Cambridge, either.

CityLab introduces us to "Raining Poetry," in which poems were inscribed on sidewalks across the city with a spray that only becomes visible when it gets wet (presumably from rain, but, you know, this is a big city and anything can happen).

Animal heads on the Rose Kennedy Greenway

Adam Castiglioni watched the installation of a snarling dog head and other animal heads on the Rose Kennedy Greenway this morning; part of a work by Ai Weiwei that represents the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac (H/t Allstonian for that info).

Anulfo Baez introduces us to the new mural at 1720 Dorchester Ave., by Marcelo Ment, finishing up a residency at Brandeis:

A member of the first generation of graffiti artists in Rio do Janeiro, Marcelo Ment's work has been widely published in books and catalogs. Ment's murals can be seen on the streets of many cities around the world, including those of Rio do Janeiro, Los Angeles, Miami and now Boston.

Art up on the Hancock Tower in Boston

Manu looked up to an odd sight on the Hancock this morning. The new owners of "200 Clarendon" say the art will take 7-10 days to complete and that they'll reveal the artist's name after that.

Artblog.net covers the latest controversy around that kimono thing at the MFA: The people who organized the original "yellowface" protests organized a panel discussion for this Saturday at MassArt - from which they initially planned to exclude whites, and prevent blacks and Latinos from making any comments - although they would be given note cards on which to jot down questions. Mirrored box in Franklin Park art exhibit

The Franklin Park Art Grove is a two-day pop-up exhibit in the Wilderness along the Jamaica Plain side of Franklin Park.

Enter through the parking lot that sits on the main park road between the zoo and Shattuck Hospital and walk along the paths (at least, through 6 p.m. on Sunday) for installations and thoughts in several languages tied around trees. Read more.

Proposed Society for Arts and Crafts in South Boston

The BRA announced yesterday that the Society of Arts and Crafts will move into space set aside for cultural uses at the almost finished 100 Pier 4 residential building. Read more.

Mural on Archdale in Roslindale

The Mayor's Mural Crew is nearly done with the mural on Archdale Road at Washington that illustrates a Dominican saying about how much a bird in the hand is worth - and has begun work on another mural a block away on the side of the Little People's Playhouse on Washington: Read more.

Artst at work at the Martini Shell in Hyde Park

Save Our Streets and the Hyde Park Arts Association held their annual arts festival at the Martini Shell on Truman Parkway today. In the afternoon, local artists duked it out during a Battle of the Arts - they had three hours to paint a prize-winning work.

As they painted, residents took turns dancing, singing and playing instruments on the shell itself: Read more.
