Kerry Healey
Red Mass. Group reports a couple of sources say the former lieutenant governor is getting ready to announce a run against Democrat John Tierney in the Sixth District. Karen Anderson at WBZ, however, tweets an aide to Healey says she's not running this year.
Associated Press reports the former lieutenant governor won't be running.
Josh Ourisman notices a Healey/Hillman Google ad in a forum discussion about Mitt Romney:
... I encourage everyone to follow the link. Maybe they'll get enough ad clicks that they'll actually notice it's still up ...
You wouldn't know the election was more than two months ago, based on the Google text ads that keep popping up on sites that mention Kerry Healey or Mitt Romney. Take, for example, the 2008 page on Patrick Ruffini's site, which had this at the top a few minutes ago:
Whiteboy gets the scoop:
... Patrick: "Hello?"
Mihos: "Is your refrigerator running?"
Patrick: "Yes, my refrigerator is running."
Mihos: "Well, I'M NOT anymore!" ...
Joe Dwinell covered the debate as it happens.
Whiteboy also covered it:
Cokie Roberts: Hello, and welcome. I'm Cokie Roberts. You might remember me as Sam Donaldson's dominatrix on This Week before that short, cute, Greek little man replaced us. Before we begin, I'd like to ask a question of the Democrat because that's all us media folks can talk about today. Should Kerry have apologized for his comments? ...
Kimberly Atkins posts the letter from the members of the Governor's Commission on Sexual and Domestic Violence, who want her to resign from the commission because of her rape ads.
Much ado about nothing, Hub Politics says.
The Missus explains why those rape ads convinced her to vote for Patrick. Read more
Debate prediction: You think David Gergen was bad? Wait until you get a load of the Queen of Smug Insufferablness who for some reason was chosen to moderate the final debate. The candidates will have to punch out moderator Cokie Roberts if they want to get a word in edgewise.
The election hasn't even happened yet, but Blue Mass. Group draws a favorable comparison between Karl Rove and Patrick manager John Walsh. Also: questions remain in the LaGuer case - even with the DNA testing.
Hub Politics is outraged that Milton Police sometimes post a patrol in front of Patrick's house and that Patrick went out of state for a fundraiser. Also: Patrick is Dukakis. Read more
Sandouri Dean Bey finds Grace Ross alluring:
Her message resonates with the working class, who rightly feel that they/ve been given the shaft by the political establishment.
Why is Kerry Healey letting LaGuer's lawyer work for the state?
Hub Politics: There's just something about Deval Patrick and sex offenders. Also: a majority of likely Massachusetts voters are idiots.
Just in case, Mass. GOP News prepares for a Patrick win.
Kimberly Atkins notes the Patrick campaign is now telling people not to forget to vote on Nov. 7 - if too many people stay away thinking he'll win, well, he might not.
Jay Fitzgerald concludes:
... Sure, the coddles-criminals issue, as manufactured as it was, served as a surprisingly effective close-the-gap ploy. But the Healey camp somehow, it appears, convinced itself that it could be used as a central issue of the campaign. They lost perspective. They fell out of touch with voters. I mean, putting guys who look like skinhead neo-Nazis in prison garb and thinking it was clever? It's literally an insult to voters' intelligence. ...
On Channel 4 at 7 p.m. Jon Keller frets nobody will watch.
New Suffolk poll to show Patrick with 49-25 lead. Blue Mass. Group: No more talk about Patrick's vanishing lead.
Hub Politics: Patrick is still a coward for refusing to debate Healey one on one. Oh, and NOW is pro-rapist. Read more
How DARE Blue Mass. Group call the Inmates for Patrick skinheads just because they are white guys with shaved heads. Mass. GOP News is outraged by this racial calumny:
... The men have nothing to do with a skinhead movement and any reference to that effect is racially motivated. As we know the skin head movement was a racially based resurgence of neo nazi activism that originated in Europe over the last twenty years. The men in the photo are actually just locals that are sick and tired of the "soft-on-crime" position that Deval is denying when in fact he frequently supports convicted criminals. This type of race baiting is exactly the kind of dirty politics and fear mongering that is making this gubernatorial race so ugly. ...
And, of course, Blue Mass. Group controls the Patrick campaign, so they better get their boy to debate Healey one on one, because otherwise that means Patrick condones their comments. Oh, and stop complaining about Hub Politics, you racists.
On New England Republican, meanwhile, Vermont Woodchuck blames liberals for the skinhead movement because today's liberals were yesterday's SDS members. Or something. I'm sure it all makes sense after a drink or six.
Those Inmates for Healey are real wimps. Doesn't take any prison smahts to stroll around Milton at 7 a.m. OK, tough guys, if you really want to impress us, drive up to Pride's Crossing tomorrow and kidnap Kerry Healey. Get really tough and muss her hair.
Outraged Liberal: Just when you thought the Healey campaign could not hit a new low, they come up with a way to surprise you.
But will we keep seeing them? Or will guys in chicken suits start following Patrick around?
Ed Prisby would love that - he appreciates dorks in costumes. Read more
Blue Mass. Group links to an FBI report showing that Massachusetts does have the highest violent-crime rate in the Northeast - even beating, gasp, New Jersey. Also, says Healey lied about the number of police on the street.
Hub Politics acknowledges that report, but says the real story is that violent crime in Massachusetts went down under Romney/Healey - Massachusetts was already pretty violent before they took office. Read more
Who won the debate?
Outraged Liberal: Patrick.
Mass. GOP News: Healey (Mass. GOP News earns bonus points for watching post-debate analysis and concluding that Mike Barnicle must have suffered a head injury shortly before going on air). Read more
Joe Dwinell is posting away.
Mihos comes out against the tollbacks on the turnpike as a cheap political trick.
Elias calls it electoral blackmail. Berto thinks eliminating the tolls is a great idea, but predicts the plan will die when Patrick wins.
Outraged Liberal: OK Mitt and Kerry -- how about rolling back T fares too?
Oh, but what would a campaign report be without long discussions of rape and murder? Read more
Mass. GOP News puts together a Deval Patrick word-search game that wittily ties Patrick to alleged perv David Scondras.
Adam Reilly at the Phoenix, meanwhile, says he'll spring for a $10 taco gift certificate for the best Kerry Healey ad parody. Reilly also offers up the conspiracist view of those Romney Healey-is-toast comments: That she must lose so that he can prove to primary voters that only he's a special enough Republican to win in Massachusetts. So Romney tells Wolf Blitzer Massachusetts is going blue in the governor's race.
Debate on Thursday starting at 7 p.m. on, well, pretty much every channel. All four candidates will be there. Read more
Blue Mass. Group blogs Bill Clinton's pro-Patrick appearance in Boston tonight. Also notes some Herald body blows on Healey.
Hub Politics notes: The Healey campaign doesn't see Clinton's visit as particularly helpful for Patrick because, after all, only loonie leftists care what he has to say. Read more
Amy will not vote for Kerry Healey, but still finds Brian McGrory's column on her last week, the one in which he wonders what happened to the fun Kerry Healey of old, the one who gleefully drinks raw Coke by the case, insulting:
... Heads up, McGrory: Not all women like diet soda. Sorry. This is a completely sexist way to humanize Healey, by talking about the fact that she really can be a good normal woman, and an extraordinary one at that because she doesn't drink diet soda. If he were writing about Deval Patrick, the diet soda issue wouldn't have come up. I think it's a nasty addition that wasn't necessary that only comes into play because Healey is a woman.
