Ladies and gentlemen: Start your taps!

Ban lifted at 3 a.m. But officials say: Let your cold water run for a minute and your hot water run for 15 minutes (if you have a 40-gallon water heater) or 30 minutes (80 gallons) before drinking deeply of the local tap water.

From the governor's office:

Since Monday morning, more than 800 water samples at 482 locations have been taken in affected communities, with those samples tested by MWRA under protocols agreed-upon with the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). Those tests have shown no contamination that could threaten public health. As a result, the boil water order can be lifted, and normal use of water can be resumed in the 30 affected communities, following certain steps to ensure than any less-than-fully treated water is purged from the water supply system in homes, businesses, and institutions.

So, everyone ready to trust the Gov. and start drinking from the tap again instead of screwing off yet one more of those little white plastic caps?

Aquapocalypse is almost over!

So says the MWRA updates page (yes, refresh it).

Community Update

The 120” pipe connection has been repaired, pressurized and put back into service. Fully treated water has been distributed to the MWRA system since about 6 PM on Sunday and is expected to continue. Water pressure in MWRA service area is in typical ranges.

Please remember that a Boil Water Order is in effect for the following communities until otherwise notified and water use should be restricted to essential use only.

Those 24 packs of Poland Springs were seen this morning (from overnight deliveries to stores) but were still awfully small piles for all 2 million folks affected. Thank goodness for Cambridge; you can still drive there today to buy your coffee; their drinking water was always clean.

Shameless exploitation II: I Survived the Aquapocalypse

Designer Holly Gordon came up with this nifty aquapocalyptic design. You can get it on a T-shirt, a mug or a mousepad.

But, of course, you also want Aquapocalypse water bottles.
