Faulkner Hospital has filed a new set of expansion plans that are largely similar to the ones it filed in 2019, but with one major change: One of the new in-patient floors would have a special ventilation system to better let the hospital isolate and treat patients during the current and future pandemics. Boulders

State Police had to block a lane on Centre Street outbound just past Faulkner Hospital tonight when several boulders plummeted to the sidewalk and bike lane from the rock formation between Allandale Street and the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Workers from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation quickly joined troopers as they tried to figure out how to remove the rock slide and keep another one from happening on the ledge underneath Brownson Terrace, a small street normally notable only for the resident who lets all candidates perch their campaign signs on the outcropping above the parkway.

Daily Worcesteria reports federal bug experts no longer think the dreaded Asian Longhorned Beetles at Faulkner Hospital came from a nursery, but instead from "someone visiting the hospital" from the Worcester area. Who brought some infested wood.

Map shows the 1.5-mile radius around Faulkner Hospital in which crews will check for beetle infestation - and area in which residents, businesses now banned from removing wood to other locations.

Photo by Jennifer Forman OrthPhoto by Jenn Forman Orth.State officials are convening a press conference at 11 AM today to discuss the discovery of Asian Longhorn Beetles at the Faulkner Hospital grounds, just mere steps from the Arnold Arboretum.

Six trees showed signs of the telltale beetle bored holes in their trunks and USDA officials confirmed the sightings this weekend. It's unknown what measures are going to need to be taken, but due to the proximity, I worry for the Arboretum.

It's a pleasant sound when you're starting a fire, but not so good when you slip on some ice and break two bones in your leg. Mike Ball reports the only thing worse was the sound of the orthopedic surgeon and an aide snapping the bones back into place - at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Ball, who lives in Jamaica Plain, also explains why, when the ambulance came, he refused to go to the closer Faulkner Hospital - not that he needed to worry:

Immediately, the EMT shot back, "I wouldn't take my dog or cat to the Faulkner."

Did anyone else see (or hear) the thundersnow this morning? At about 6:50 this morning I was driving past the Faulkner Hospital and the whole sky lit up, and a second later came the boom. We got a second round a few minutes later by Jamaica Pond.
