Armed robbery at Chestnut Hill T stop

AlertNewEngland reports somebody was held up this afternoon at the Chestnut Hill stop on the Green Line by a black male wearing a ski mask and baggy red and black clothes who fled toward the Longwood Cricket Club.

7:35 update: One could ask the same thing about commuter rail: As I type, there are 17 alerts about delays at the MBTA Web site.

9:00 update: Probably should have written "What is it about the T?" since switch problems at Oak Grove AND a dead train are causing agita on the Orange Line. Or as Boon Sheridan tweets: "Orange line from inbound from Oak Grove dead in the water. Seek alternate routes and aspirin."

Because what isn't catching on fire today?

Seems there's a brake fire on a Green Line trolley at Chestnut Hill (photo).

Also, a propane tank at 49 Calender St. in Mattapan caught fire this afternoon.

Anybody know if anything's happening with mulch along Gallivan Boulevard? Or has all of that already gone up in flames?

Green D Line back ahead of schedule

MassDOT announced the reopening of the Green D Line as of 2:30 PM this afternoon after setting an original expected date of Monday.

The MBTA reports that in four days, workers:

Pumped all the water out of the swimming pool-sized hole;
Installed a 250 foot, 18 inch in diameter, concrete drainage pipe to prevent wash-outs in the future;
Erected a retaining wall comprised of concrete blocks;
Re-built the earthen rail bed beneath the tracks;
Restored power to the overhead wires and tested the signal system and tracks

There'll be a little ceremony/press conference at 2:15 at Reservoir station, after which Transportation Secretary Jeff Mullan and acting T General Manager William Mitchell will board a trolley and not be swallowed up by a sinkhole as they take the ceremonial first ride on the new trackbed.

Armed with a $5 coupon, we trekked to Chestnut Hill today to check out the new Star Market (question for Shaw's/Star: Why do you want to encourage people in 02131 to travel to Rte. 9 when you've got perfectly serviceable Shaw's in West Roxbury and Hyde Park?).

Because we really need another one of these.
