Die-in in Central Square, Cambridge

Central Square die-in. Photo by Central Square.

Protesters started at Tufts University, blocked up Davis Square, where the T shut down the subway station, then moved down Mass. Ave. to Porter and onto Harvard, where a large contingent of T cops blocked the portal into the busway and then had the gates to the main pedestrian entrance to the station locked. As protesters moved down JFK Street, the entrance was re-opened.

Around 6:25 p.m., the vanguard of protesters was approaching Central Square.

Shades of JP: Somebody went down Hawthorne Street in Somerville today, putting fliers on car windshields warning how the proposed Davis Square Roche Bros. would be the first step in turning the square "corporate."

Men under arrest in Davis Square in Somerville

Updated with State Police info.

Matt Marra walked out of his dentist's office in Davis Square around 10:45 a.m. and right into a scene out of The Town - except this time the good guys won: A squadron of cops in armor taking down two guys they seemed to have known would be coming out of the Rockland Trust branch:

There was unmarked white van that the team poured out of right outside the bank as soon as guys came out.

UPDATED with info from MBTA.

Don't use your phone right on the yellow line, because you might drop it and then the driver of the train will stop his train so your phone can be retrieved before it is crushed into a gazillion pieces.

Tim Devin captured the action around 8 a.m. today at Davis Square, where a T spokesman says:

Crowded Davis Square Red Line stop

Around 7:50 a.m., a Red Line train ascended in Elijah's whirlwind at Alewife. That was about an hour after train 804 from Providence breathed it last, leaving commuters just hanging around Mansfield until the 806 could get to them, as Joe shows:

This morning, before the parade, the city DPW went along the route cutting bikes away from bike stands and pole, to pile them into a truck for removal.

Tiffany Montogomery, herself a veteran, found her car towed - and when she complained, a cop threatened to arrest her. And then, when she got to the tow lot, they wouldn't give her her car without a "release ticket" from police, which meant a trip to the police station - after taking a cab there in the first place.

She reports:

Shortly after 9 a.m., it seems, fare machines at Red and Green Line stations stopped accepting credit and debit cards, hosing monthly passholders who thought they could just waltz right in, replenish their cards and get on the T.

Just in case riders failed to appreciate the humor of the situation, the T stationed a particularly jocular CSA at Davis, according to Sweetadelinevt:

So if six fare machines don't work, and no one can buy a new pass, shouldn't the operator let them through gate? He said, "not my problem."
