Sean Olsen reports that a driver hit and dragged a pedestrian down Brighton Avenue inbound just before Packards Corner. The pedestrian suffered major head trauma and the police homicide unit was called in due the severity of the bicyclist's injuries. Around 7:30 p.m.

WCVB reports that although it initially appeared a bicyclist had been hit, the bicycle belonged to somebody who stopped to help.

It was the first full weekend back for Boston University and the kids quickly spread the word on Snapchat: Everybody head to Tavern in the Square. Ahorde of thirsty, hungry BU students quickly descended on the Brighton Avenue bar - forming themselves into an impenetrable knot of a line that went down Brighton Avenue and around the corner to where Common Ground used to be. Police, of course, quickly came to investigate. Read more.

Live Boston reports the two people were taken to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries in the crash around 3:30 a.m. at Harvard and Brighton avenues. Police say the scooter driver ran a red light, WBZ reports.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today acquitted men from Dedham and Norwood on charges they shot a man in the thigh during a large closing-time brawl that started inside Patron's, at the corner of Brighton and Harvard avenues on Nov. 26, 2015. However, the jury did convict them for illegal possession of a firearm, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

UPDATE, 8/29: Mess cleaned up, restaurant cleared to re-open.

A Boston health inspector shut Totto Ramen, 169 Brighton Ave., today after a sprinkler burst, sending sprinkler water all over the kitchen - from a large container of tripe stew to cutting boards and other food-prep surfaces to walls.

The restaurant can re-open once everything's been cleaned up and the kitchen passes a re-inspection.

Bank robbery suspect

The FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force is looking for the guy they say robbed the East Boston Savings Bank branch at 181 Brighton Ave. in Allston around noon on Tuesday.

The Board of Appeal today approved a 129-unit, six-story apartment building at Brighton Avenue and Linden Street after developers said they would rent no more than a third of the units to students - and not allow students to occupy any unit at a density greater than one student per bedroom. Firefighters at Brighton and Harvard avenues in Allston

A fire in the basement of Buk Kyung 2 at the corner of Brighton and Harvard avenues around 8:50 p.m. emptied the restaurant and brought Boston firefighters rushing to the scene. Read more.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Caitlin reports, the Brighton Music Hall on Brighton Avenue lost power - and ushered everybody out. She repaired to Tavern in the Square across the street where, just a few minutes later, the fire alarms began ringing.

Around 12:30 a.m. at Brighton Avenue and Cambridge Street. The suspect was described as white, with dark, curly hair, wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. He had a bicycle with him and a black backpack.

Proposed Hamilton Co. building on Brighton Avenue in Allston

The Hamilton Co. last night showed off plans for 114 apartment in three buildings - one of them an existing Victorian house - around its Brighton Avenue offices.

At a meeting of the Brighton Allston Improvement Association, Hamilton architect David Hacin said the company would tear down the existing AutoZone building at 45-55 Brighton Ave. and use existing parking lots for two new residential buildings with underground parking as part of its proposed Packard Crossing project.
