Proposed Alternative to Current GLX

I've done up a multi-page web site on an alternative to the proposed Green Line extension into Somerville and Medford. I'd like to get some feedback, and/or otherwise promote it. The alternative isn't dissing the use of the Green Line, merely making better use of it than the GLX will do. The current price tag for the GLX is a mind boggling, highly exorbitant expenditure for a short extension of a light rail tram in an already owned rail corridor.

There are no words to describe the size of the ripoff that is the GLX. For $10 billion the Swiss bore TWO tunnels, each 30' wide and 35 miles long, yes, 35 MILES, through the mountains, TWO of em. The price tag actually includes another 24 miles of connecting and support tunnels. The tunnels are sized for HIGH SPEED trains to be traveling at well over 160 miles an hour (which is the minimum in the EU for high speed rail).

On I-93 north in Medford near Roosevelt Circle. It has the right two lanes closed, and traffic is backed up past the Zakim Bridge at this point.

The city and state today announced an agreement that paves the way (lays the rail?) for the Green Line extension.

In exchange for the city dropping opposition to an Innerbelt-Brickbottom repair yard for new trolleys, the state will pay for planning and design of a pedestrian and bicycle path along the extension route through east and central Somerville.

Nancy Pearl Wannabe informs us that one is full of sketchy stores and an iParty where you too can buy a Passover Bag of Plagues, while the other is full of sketchy frat boys and plagued by U2. Also, she issues a warning to said frat boys and band members:

I will smash that Solo cup right out of your sloppy hands if you get too near my newly-washed car.

Also, Kat Powers at Wicked Local Somerville has an exclusive backstage pass of sorts to the show: Turns out her office overlooks the rear of the Somerville Theatre and she is promising exclusive blog and Twitter updates. Unless, of course, the Police show up and throw her out for security concerns (see, the Boomtown Rats would never do that).

Paul Levy raves about the Danish Pastry House, which sells pastry just like you'd get in Copenhagen, only now in Medford and Watertown, you know: Spandauer, wienerbrod, marzipan frogs, thebirkes and, of course, the kringle. From his description, the rugbrod could serve as an acceptable bagel replacement.

Mike Dukakis, who knows something about the Green Line, cannot believe the snail's pace of the Green Line extension through Somerville and Medford and the reconstruction of the Kenmore Square bus stop:

... In Boston we're in our fifth year of reconstructing Kenmore Square. It's a joke. It’s absurd. They're talking about six years to extend the Green line from Lechmere through Somerville to Tufts on existing railway. Chinese and Irish immigrants were laying four miles of railway a day in 1867.

Inside Medford reports that officials will announce final station locations - including the end of the line - for the Green Line extension through Somerville and Medford at a meeting this afternoon, 4-6 p.m. at St. Clement's New Parish Hall, 579 Boston Ave., Medford.
