UPDATE: The coffee shop passed a re-inspection on Marc. 14 and was allowed to re-open.

A Boston health inspector yesterday ordered Red Barn Coffee Roasters in the Longwood Galleria shut for a series of health violations, many focused on the lack of hand washing by workers. Read more.

Frozen Dunkin' Coffee

Our own Ron Newman spotted this sign, probably only meant for the eyes of the store manager, at his local Dunkin' Donuts. Mmm, bet you can't wait to go up to the counter and smartly say to the clerk: "One Frozen Dunkin' Coffee, please!"

In one of those only-in-Boston things, plans for some licensing musical chairs in which a longtime Charlestown bar would sell its full liquor license to a Dominican restaurant in Roslindale, so it could in turn sell its beer and wine license to a coffeehouse in a boutique hotel in Downtown Crossing hit a last-minute snag today. The Zoning Board of Appeals today approved a plan by a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee to fill in an empty storefront on Tremont Street at West Street with a new Dunks.

When open, the location means people needing a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee while standing at Tremont and West will no longer have to walk an entire two blocks to the Dunkin' Donuts at Tremont and Park or Washington near Winter and Summer.

In August, a Starbucks got approved in City Point. Now it looks like another frou-frou coffee chain is moving in, specifically, Caffe Nero, at 416 W. Broadway. Now, granted, that's a bit closer to the part of Southie already irredeemably lost to yuppies, but still, makes you wonder how long until a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's moves in.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Landwer Cafe, which has a menu featuring Israeli fare such as shakshouka as well as coffee, is advertising for a chef and general manager for a Boston outpost.

Dog in Starbucks

A concerned citizen doesn't want any hair of the dog and files a complaint about a South End Starbucks:

Third time in 10 days I have seen a dog in this Starbucks at 627 Tremont in the south end. Management is oblivious. These are not service dogs.

Adam Castiglioni reports Boston Common Coffee, 97 Salem St., will be shutting its doors for good on Monday - after first trying to drain its remaining stocks by handing out free coffee.

Refuge Cafe in Allston shutting on Sept. 30

Dave Goodrich shows us the sign that Refuge Cafe at Harvard and Brighton avenues is closing forever at the end of the month.

Jennifer Lee, owner of Myong Dong, snapped up the closed Allston Cafe in 2011 to keep Starbucks out of Allston. Allston Cafe in turn was a reincarnation of the Herrell's that used to be there.

A community meeting tonight on a Starbucks proposed for L Street and Broadway repeatedly veered towards Parks and Rec style chaos as residents battled each other on issues that often had little to directly do with the coffeehouse - such as which local restaurants drove other local restaurants out of business. Renovation permit for new Starbucks

Eileen Murphy reports on the newest addition to what's becoming South Boston's Caffeine Corner: A Starbucks, for which renovation is now underway at L Street and East Broadway, opening where developer Michael Norton once proposed a restaurant.

Starbucks joining DD, Cumbies, & Boston Bagel on L St.

There's already a Starbucks near Broadway station and, of course, on the South Boston waterfront.
