Alicia never knows what she'll get when she orders her medium iced hazelnut with skim at her local Dunk's. Today, she reports:

When I took a sip this morning, it was like drinking battery acid. I swallowed a little bit, but managed to spit the rest back in the cup. There was a pool of something (hopefully meant for human consumption) on the bottom of my cup that created a sensation of 200 miniature knives poking me in the throat. I've since downed 2 glasses of water, and am hoping that my tonsils aren't melting and dripping slowly into my stomach. ...

By the time I got to Back Bay station. I wish I asked him his name and hours for September so I can specifically go out of my way to get that iced coffee again and again when I'm back in Boston for good.

Petition to try to convince Starbucks to close the Starbucks on Centre Street in Newton Center instead of the one in the Union Street train station:

Mr. Shultz, please be advised that I will NEVER spend a dollar at the Center Street location, nor any other Starbucks for that matter. There is a Peets Coffee and Tea location in Newton Center as well, and they will be getting my daily business going forward if you proceed with this closing. ...

Via The Missus, who writes people go to Starbucks for the ambiance, not the awful coffee and stale pastry.

Chuck Tanowitz, who admits he's a coffee snob, marvels at a new Newtonville coffee bar that not only has an espresso machine that is the only one of its kind in the Boston area (brought in from Seattle), it uses only coffee from the George Howell Coffee Co., a name that will be familiar to old-time coffee aficionados who remember the days before Starbucks, when the Coffee Connection made life worthwhile.

Not a latte like about Cambridge

There are just not enough places in Cambridge that can serve up good latte, never mind latte with designs in the foam at the top, Jaime van Schnydel sighs:

Daily Candy shucks the starbucks and grabs a cup from Flamepoeira on Lewis Street in the North End, apparently just missing Bostonist.

Flamepoeira introduces a new type of cafe to Boston, a friendly, social, caffeinated art spot that is part Littlest Bar, part Pan 9-- yet oddly North End.
